I have aspergers syndrome or high functioning autism, and i have been taking risperidone for nearly two years now.
Originally on 3mg, but i have tapered it to 1mg.

I was originally put on risperidone for paranoia, and possible bipolar. The doctors at the psych hospital didn't get a chance to talk to me enough to give the diagnosis of bipolar, so i am not sure if i have it. I do however have been officially diagnosed with ASD.
I use to have episodes of extreme irritability, and would snap at the people close to me. At the same time during the same day, or sometimes within the same hour i would have a euphoric feeling and would smile, laugh and sometimes agitate others.

I no longer have these episodes to those extremes anymore since taking risperidone.
Since tapering to 1mg i have noticed a little bit of irritability coming back, and i am not sure now if i should taper off completely, or stay at the dose i am at.
I had originally planed to taper off because i feared long term side effects, but at such a low dose of 1mg i think the possibility of side effects are slim.
This medication i believe has really benefited me by keeping emotions under control, and has balanced my mood.

Are there others with ASD who are on medication like risperidone or another antipsychotic, and have benefited from taking it?
Should i taper off this med completely since i am no longer paranoid, and not sure i have bipolar?

I am not sure if i need this medication or not.

Any feedback is appreciated
