Hi.
I'm very sorry for posting.

I am wondering about something...sort of.... I recently go to the psychiatrist/doctor..and as far as I know... in the past I'm treated for schizophrenia...then at the end of the session...they recommend me to go and see some place that could help me...so then after I leave I go look it up...and it's a place for people with autism?? Now I am very confused...but also...why wouldn't they tell me before? Why did they tell me about the place...if they don't tell me in person...are they making fun of me?

I guess that's my question...sorry...

Hello Wintery... hey... no need to be sorry. This is what we're all here for! As far as your question goes... I don't know. It could be they made a mistake. It could be the place you were referred to treats other conditions in addition to autism. Or it could be your psychiatrist suspects you may be on the autism spectrum. It's difficult to know.

I'm fairly confident they're not making fun of you. But it is true I believe, based on my own experiences, that sometimes what a person gets in the way of helpful communication from mental health professionals falls short of what it should be. I suspect what you've experienced here is mostly an example of less than stellar communication on the part of your psychiatrist & her / his staff. My suggestion would be to simply call them & clarify their intentions. (Oh, & by the way, please keep posting here on PC too!)

Hi...thank you for replying...

The thing is that I don't know if it's a mistake or not...but I can't ask because it's very difficult for me to say my thoughts and ask for things. I don't like to speak very much.

I do think the place they tell me about...is only a place for autism because that's what it says. I'm also thinking...maybe they are testing me...testing my reaction... would they do that?? I think the doctor/other doctors always don't tell me anything or explain things to me...I think they believe I'm not competent enough to understand...but still that doesn't answer the question of...why they would give me a recommendation... and not tell me about what it is...

if you google the two problems.... autism and schizophrenia you may find that they both have common symptoms and problems. because of this many treatments that work for one work for the other. making a guess here, maybe this is why they referred you to the autism agency, maybe this agency is better able to help you with your problems not because you have this but because you have similar problems that this place treats.

Sometimes there are diagnosis put on us so as to get the right meds and help. Maybe they don't really have a true diagnosis as they are unsure of it at this point and think this place would be a good starter. good luck!!

From your description of yourself it sounds very much like you could be on the autistic spectrum since you havr trouble communicating yoyr thlughts & dont want to call them to find out WHY they are sending you there. You would rather guess incorrectly thsn just find out the real reason by calling them (my ex did the same thing & he is on the spectrum)

Our pdoc wasnt able to dx ASD for some reason & they like to send people to a specialist yo get that dx because it is complex to define correctly for a dx. They pribably suspect you are on the spectrum from your behaviors & interreactions so it is wise for them to srnd you there to get an accurate assessment.

Why they didnt talk to you about it, only they can tell you that answer. I know communicating & getting through informstion to my ex even though he had been a computer engineer was next to impossible & he would look at me as if I were speaking in a foreign language. It got so I would judt tell him to do what he needed to do because it was useless to do anything more.. the harder it is for an outsider to communicate with someone the less thry communicate. Who knows if that is their reasoning or not. Maybe they asdumed they told you they suspect Autism or msybe they told you at another time & you didnt grasp what you were being told. There coukd be lits of reasons & unless you are willing to ask you will never know.

I would recommend folliwing through with their suggestion as you might get help you really need.
