it's taken me so many days to work myself up to writing this so here it goes. i'm looking for help/advice i think? i am 21 and i suspect i have autism. who do i talk to about this? a general doctor? i dont really know anything and i dont have a job because i am really bad with communication and everyday social interactions. i have had a really hard time trying to make any money and my parents are going to stop helping me with my rent in december this year. am i supposed to see a specialist? how do i find work? how do i do anything i am so lost. i try to sell items online but i am very unsuccessful because i get so nervous about making things for others. i feel like i am stuck. i am not very good at words and people dont like me since i interrupt everyone a lot. this paragraph is probably really choppy and all over the place. i have no friends i guess thats why nobody helped me when i was younger. please someone help guide me. i took the quiz on this site and i scored 41. what does that mean? a lot of infermation at once makes me anxious and i cant even look my parents in the eyes i feel so uncomfortable. im not sure what im supposed to be saying here |:

Hello Celebi: Welcome to PsychCentral!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You wrote you believe you may have autism & you wondered who you should talk to. If you have a trusted family, or general practice, doctor that would be a place to start. However, if not, another option might be to seek the services of a mental health therapist or psychologist. Assuming money is an issue for you, you could check out any free or income-adjusted mental health services that are provided where you live. If you have health insurance your provider may be able to help you find an appropriate professional. Your local mental health association office (assuming there is one) may also be a source of information & support. You also asked how you find work. Of course I don't know where you live beyond that you list yourself as being in the U.S. So I can't be at all specific. But in general, beyond simply filling out applications with various employers either in person or on-line, another good place to start is with your local job services office (again assuming there is one you can get to.) My thought would be to see if you can schedule an appointment with an employment counselor there, discuss your circumstances, & see what services they can provide. If you can, perhaps take a family member with you for support. You mentioned you scored 41 on one of the autism quizzes on this site. (There are two... a quick one & a longer one.) Both of these quizzes indicate that a score over 31 suggests Autism is likely. Of course, only a mental health professional can actually diagnose you. But your results would seem to suggest you may, in fact, be diagnosable as being on the autism spectrum. So it sounds as though you may well be on the right track. I know you wrote that a lot of information at once makes you anxious. So I don't want to overwhelm you with it. However, I will offer you links to 4 articles, from PsychCentral's archives, that may be of some help: Adult Asperger's: The Relief of A Diagnosis 10 Ways to Find a Good Therapist How to Find a Good Mental Health Counselor What to Do When You Can't Afford Therapy You've made a good start to moving forward with your life by signing in here on PC. And I'd like to encourage you to commit yourself to sticking with it & continuing to move forward. You can certainly continue posting here on PC. That may help. But whether you do that or not, please do try to keep moving forward. I know it can be difficult sometimes. But your future awaits... ![]() By the way, are you familiar with family therapist Kati Morton on YouTube? Kati has several videos on her YouTube channel on the topic of autism. If you haven't already seen them, you might find them to be of interest. Here are links to a listing of videos on YouTube that includes Kati's autism videos plus a link to Kati's YouTube channel: YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/KatiMorton My best wishes to you... ![]() ![]()
