G'day Purple Mist,
Blood test? I would be surprised (and interested) if anyone would be diagnosed with Avoidance from a blood test. I'm seeing my psych on Tuesday and I will ask her about this for you. (hopefully I remember- bad memory) Welcome P.M. Snap ![]() |

I dont remember my blood being taken when my psychologist diagnosed me with AvPd,
I remember he asking me about so many question and made careful anamnesis and run few projective test before he finally diagnosed me with AvPD ,and it cannot be done one day. when you found out you have this , this is not the end of the world, its better you found out now than never understand what happened to you Theres a lot of behaviour therapy that might help but it need a lot of hard work Be strong ![]() ![]() ![]()

I never had to get blood work done for my evaluation of AvPD. All I had to do was a questionnaire/test. The test, along with the discussion with a psychologist verified my AvPD. Generally, my AvPD developed from years of bullying in Junior High level of school. This resulted in avoiding social settings, fear of rejection causing anxiety during tests, interviews, assessments at the workplace...any situation that elads to another's judgment of me.
When I get a bad report from a boss or if I am told of a mistake I made at work, I become very stressed about it and have to learn to relax, breathe, and control distorted thinking patterns. http://sourcesofinsight.com/10-disto...king-patterns/ Meanwhile, I found that simply acknowledging when my thought patterns are taking over, and being able to counter the thought patterns, has helped a lot. Nor do I tell myself anymore that I should be better than I am. The most important person to help me recover or manage this is myself. I will occasionally reach out to an external source to help control the anxiety when it happens, like calling tele-nurse, but the thought patterns are the biggest challenge and the knowledge of the distorted thought patterns have helped me most. |

I use the same technique ![]() Nick, have you found that the 'good ole days" only date back to the start of that technique (Understand, reconize and control) and prior to that it life hadn't really started? Snap ![]() |

I do have some good ole days prior to the bullying I endured in junior high school, when children were more caring and less judgmental. The bullying is what led to the Avoidant Personality Disorder. It resulted in anxiety and fear around judgment and assessments or evaluations. I avoid social scenes now even with groups of people I logically know respect me and love me. I cannot carry a conversation amongst people. I fear applying for positions more challenging than what I presently do because of repetitive rejection due to lack of experience. The technique I use now has only recently been active so I am in a transition period, still learning to manage the distorted thoughts.
