I made it through the holiday luncheon with the president of our company, it actually wasn't so bad. Usually I hate it.
I went to my grandson's Christmas play, didn't make it last year too depressed and hung over. Lot of guilt/regret on that one.
Christmas play was cute, and when it was done we did the dreaded social time with snacks, I almost made for the exit and bolted on that one, but made myself stay for him and got through it.
Why is this social stuff so hard for some of us? Well it is what it is. Glad it's done.

Good for you! I know it is hard for me sometimes too and I have to say that many times whatever event I was dreading is not near has bad as I believed it to be.
But yes, the effort required sometimes is overwhelming. I am glad you found the strength to get through it.
