Please help yourselves !
Ok so youve seen the film Pay it Forward. Where a teacher encourages his pupils to come up with an idea to change the world !. A young boy comes up with the idea that if he helps three people and those three people each help three other people then it will quickly multiply into a lot of people being helped. Ok so heres my Pay it forward idea !. Do you want to control most of your mood swings and feel a lot better ? Ok I know that some of this is not going to be easy for you if you have responsibilities like a job or family to look after, but if you can do this it really helps. There is no cure for Bipolar but you can help to stop it controlling you. I live as much of a stress free life as possible and I stick to a daily routine Bipolar loves routine ! I sleep for 12 hours per night in a blacked out room and also have a one hour sleep after lunch. In total darkness. 9pm to 9am and 1pm till 2pm go to bed at the same time every night. Please Google Dark Therapy and Bipolar Disorder, Light and darkness treatment implications. Try this for two weeks and see if it helps. If it does then tell three others ! thanks for the post. I find I need at least nine hours of sleep. there is no way I could ever go to bed at 9.....lol

May I ask what on this earth enables you to sleep 12 hours?

I have a problem with too much sleeping. I'm not working at the moment so it's no biggie. When I go back to work I would never be able to do those hours.

Hello there ! When I crashed after my first manic episode in 1991 i would sleep for 18 hours a day. this was non restorative sleep so i would wake up exhausted have something to eat watch a bit of tv and go straight back to bed again. A compleate and utter nightmare !. Now in the winter I sleep for about 14 hours a day but at the moment its twelve.

WOW, I can't sleep for that long but I am glad it works so well for you.
I average about 4 / 5 hours and this works well for me. If I sleep any longer than 6 hours I wake up miserable and sluggish. Which means the next day is completely ruined for me, I don't WANT to do anything and probably wont, which is an utter no no as I'm employed. Basically I wake up depressed I guess.

thanks for your post. I hope that continues to work for you. I am not sure I could sleep that long. I have really bad dreams and mind races while sleeping and wakes me up. I do keep schedule though. As for total darkness, I like being able to see out the windows and being closer to nature, light, air, and not feeling restricted. Not sure if you get my meaning, but that is me. Thanks.

I noticed that sleep and darkness are very important to me. I also do the 1pm to 2pm nap and it works WONDERS on my mood and focus.
Unfortunately when I have a job it's really hard to keep this up, because our society doesn't allow for this kind of schedule. ![]() As for night sleep, I trends to feel better with something like 9 hours, but run fine off of 6 or 7. But yes, total darkness in sleep is important. Otherwise I sleep badly. And winter is hard because I get so few light hours in the day. Which is equally important to my mood. |
