Simple and short, but I was happy with myself today!!!

I normally drink 2-3 cups of coffee every morning. Today I had one then was about to grab another one and instead got some apple juice.

Caffeine isn't good for you especially when you have Bipolar.

Honestly, I can't give up my coffee, but if I can regularly keep this habit then that'll be great! =)

I gave up coffee almost a year ago.
The first two weeks were pure torture, but after that was great.

I had/have the routine of having something hot to drink in the morning and I've
substituted green tea instead. I still get my hot drink, but a healthy one

My next bad habit to break is my two Diet Pepsi drinks per day

Yay to us!!!!

Not sure I can give coffee entirely, but my Doc has advised me to cut down on the amount of cups I drink. I usually drink 2 in the morning and then make 2 iced coffee drinks in the evening. I'm going to make it a priority to cut down on the coffee.

Mhm. I now drink one every day. Better than 2 or 3.

Switched to decaf yesterday instead of regular. Got the taste & warm wake-up feeling, which was great. Then, around 2:15, I was on the couch and felt like I was going to doze off. Kept awake, and off to get the kids. Was yawning for about 2 hours, then rallied. Went to my class last night and got an OK workout in. I went to bed early again, which worked for me (avoided the late night insomnia, racing thoughts, can't-go-to-sleep vortex). Decaf again this morning. I even put on workout clothes...3 hours ago. I mapped a run, but am still sitting at the computer. The door looks so far away!

Planning on decaf again tomorrow...we'll see how that works out.

Caffeine makes my mind agitated And ramble. Before I had mental problems like my whole child hood I loved drinking pop I was addicted to it. It made me happy. Not really any more.

Caffeine has now been proven to cause non specific anxiety long term when used as a teenager. Caffeine is present in many pop drinks as well. Those who have anxiety or bipolar who are drinking large amounts of caffeine are just asking for problems. Those who feed children Caffiene and caffeinated drinks are setting their children up for a life of mental illness. I do not understand how this is not common knowledge in the US, your coffee is crap anyway.

They're setting children for a life of mental illness by letting them have some coffee or soda, yeah okay

Anyway the rude comment about "our coffee" is uncalled for. People drink different types of coffee, you know, there's not like a brand called "USA coffee".........

I can't really tell that much difference if I have coffee or not. I think with me it's just a habit. I only drink one cup a day or sometimes two if it's really cold.

But I know my mother had to finally give it up because it gave her anxiety.

I love conversation! I hope you come back

Sorry the "rude" comment I am assuming you mean that the coffee in the US is crap? Well its not rude, it is simply true. I have been both places and know coffee is terrible in the US, many US coffee chains have tried and failed in my home town

"The US coffee giant began selling its espressos, lattes and frappuccinos in Australia eight years ago, but powerful cultural and financial pressures have forced it to close 61 of its 85 shops across the country. Emily Falson, a senior trainer at the Sydney Coffee School, said Starbucks did not appreciate the complexity of the Australian palate."

Just one article about how coffee is markedly better and more appreciated else where than the US. Not rude - true. Just cos I believe something different and express that opinion does not make me rude.

Also some papers for your reading. I am unsure if you have to pay for them but I have read a few of these. I am sure I can find more data to back up my claim if you would like but it is harder to find solid resources I can share via the internet. I have a few on paper.

Caffeine use in children: What we know, what we have left to learn, and why we should worry

I heard a discussion on the radio about the ever increasing risks of caffeinated drinks for children and teenagers just before seeing this thread that sparked my interest. When I was a teenager (I am unsure if this is still the case) Soda drinks and coffee were banned in high schools. Most of the people I grew up with - me included, were not permitted coffee until we reached age to drink alcohol!

I was defiantly caffeine dependent before teenage years. Pop was my main source but I knew the difference between caffeinated and un-caffeinated pop. I remember waking up in the am before age 5 and first thing I would do is put water in a coffee cup heat it up and make a cup of tea.

Never could stand coffee....maybe because I live in the U.S.?

But around age 20 or 21 I discovered Mountain Dew, I drank gallons of it. Caffeine definitely affected my crazy. I don't drink MD anymore but I like my ice chai in the morning. I've noticed the days I drink it I get much more sensitive to sound. Everything kind of rings. I get agitated much more easily too.

Hahaha may well be sidestepper!!

I love a good coffee now and then - but I am very aware. Depending on how I feel, I may or may not drink it, it is less than 3 times a month lately. One cup - no problem, same for soda drinks. But more than that and more than a few times a week, I start to get anxious.

Amazing amount of sugar in Mountain Dew too, its great you are aware of the side efffects. Many people discount them or ignore that it may be caused by something as simple as what they choose to put in their body.

Some great conversations here! Really helping to understand all the effects that caffeine can have-especially for those who have a mental illness!

I used to drink at least a pot of coffee to myself per day. 10 cups or more for years. I gave it up about a year ago. I only have coffee once or twice a week, and no more than 2 cups.

I gave it up due to anxiety. My depression seems worse since quitting. I've read studies which show caffeine reduces suicide risks in women. I'm thinking of trying a cup a day as a boost.

I'm so glad I found this thread, it's given me the kick I need to just cut back or quit completely (I'm not sure yet).

I have been well for a few months now and I really shouldn't jepordise that so I'm going to get rid of the coffee now.

Green tea is a nice alternative or even just one cup of regular tea won't do much harm.

Thanks for reminding me of the dangers.
