Buspar

My pdoc has prescribed Buspar for me. I'm reading on the internet that it can be related to mania. What are y'all's experience with it? I am extremely prone to mania. She prescribed it because gabapentin is giving me brain fog on the higher doses, which would be preferable to mania...

Was on it for years. No mania, I do not think. But it was of no use for anxiety. I found it worthless. I just go without anxiety meds now and it is much better. I exercise, breathe, pray, meditate. It works. And now I don't hvae to take Klonopin, which I hate.

BuSpar, to my knowledge, is prescribed for anxiety. It seems that many people don't have the best luck with BuSpar. My own experience with it was that it was not helpful. I will say, however, that my adult daughter battles with anxiety and finds BuSpar very helpful.

I find it useful. I've severe anxiety and just felt it started to kick in. I just take 20mg with no side effects. I will ask my pdoc to double my dose. I feel my anxiety is coming back, i take another pill and everything's fine. But you've to take it constantly and effects come in 1 - 2 weeks

My experiences were like bpcyclists. Buspar was the very first psychotropic medication that I ever took, at age 14. I also took it briefly sometime in my late 30s. It wasn't particularly helpful for me, but I can't say it did anything negative. I don't think it caused mania in me.

My father actually took Buspar for some years. He claimed that it helped him with anxiety. His only complaint was that he believed it made him have vivid dreams that would sometimes result in him waking up in some violent way. [For example, he'd wake up finding himself smashing his side table or punching a hole in the wall.] I think that was one of the reasons he stopped taking it. That certainly concerned him. I never experienced that, to my recollection.
