sometimes i post for a medical opinion and my letter does not get a response because it asks for a medical help which is inappropriate. So i am rephrasing my questions

1. has anyone got manic from lamictal/lamotrigine, if yes how?
2. Does anyone use an antidepressant with lamictal
3. Did lamictal remove the bipolar depression for you/ i.e. did you REALLY feel the change
4. At what stage of dosage did you start to feel the change
5. Has anyone used paxil with lamictal with no problem

urgent pls
many many thanks

I use Lamictal. My pdoc started me out slow. Recently (2 months ago) he put me on an antidepressant be/c I had just gone through a depressive episode. Well, that sent me into a manic phase, so he upped my dose of Lamictal to 400 mgs to counter the effects of the antidepressant, which he feels that I need.
As far as a change, my husband says he feels that my moods have evened out, but it's hard for me to tell personally.
I do know that it takes time for Lamictal to build up in your system. I don't know how long you have been on it or what doasage you are at, but I would definitely talk to my pdoc about it. Hang in there!

Lamictal helped the depresive side alot for me. i was bouncing back and forth every 5-7 days for almost a year with the down side being really low and the highs being mildly hypomanic.
I started slow on dosage, bin a month and still at 50mg. i was hypomanic for the better part of the first three weaks. was only sleeping 2-3 hours a night, that was the only sucky part. crashed last monday, but only felt blah not depessed. so far so good

Nope, no hypomania or mania on Lamictal.

Nope, never tried an antidepressant with Lamictal. The only time I have taken an antidepressant I got hypomanic.

Yes, I loved Lamictal because I felt the depression leaving me without sending me to the moon. I was able to go down on the Lithium I am on as the lamictal increased.

I started feeling the depression lift at 50 mg per day. I got to 100 mg per day and had a nice case of anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome, but I was less depressed LOL

No comment, for I have not ever taken Paxil. I hate SSRIs now and probably will refuse them in the future.

You have to start really low and slow on the dosage with Lamictal, so it takes a while to get up to the right dose.

For me, Lamictal has probably saved my life. It really helped me get stable. I am Bipolar II, and they say Lamictal is the best drug for that. It is shown to be effective at Bipolar depression too.

I'm at 400mg. I was very unstable before taking it, so it did take several months and several medications to get me stable. But I have been doing well for over 6 months on it.

I've never used Paxil or any other antidepressant with Lamictal, but I know that some doctors do prescribe an antidepressant with Lamictal and that works for some patients. But for other patients, it can lead to mania. Each person is different.
