The insights I have learned from the last week are:

1. It is okay to give myself permission to go to bed.
2. Bipolar illness is not my fault; I am not defective.
3. It is not okay to mix caffeine and alcohol with my mental illness

What's wrong with caffeine if you're bipolar? I drink coffee in the morning and black tea in the afternoon and I love dark chocolate. I mean, I know alcohol is a depressant so you're not supposed to have it, especially mixing it with your meds, even though I still drink half a beer or a small glass of wine every night, but how is caffeine bad? I'm depressed and I need a stimulant to stay awake during the day until they get the meds right.

Someone in my group therapy said that coffee and caffeine can effect Lithium levels. Also if your primary goal in stabilizing your moods is to control the ups caffiene can be a trigger.
