Hello, I'm new here, just recently being re-diagnosed with Bipolar1 and starting lamictal and symbyax. I was originally diagnosed several years ago, took a whole lot of meds, then got sick of it and quit all meds. I went as long as I could without medication; but when I started self-medicating, I realized I better do something. Right now I'm at 50mg of lamictal, slowly increasing my dose. I also just started Symbyax 3/25 to help me until the lamictal kicks in. Was wondering what others have experienced with Symbyax. Thanks for any input.

I haven't taken it personally, but its supposed to be a super miracle drug. Considered on par with several other "emergency drugs" to be used or not used in short term or long term care to assist in stabililzing while the long term med starts working. check out crazymeds.us

I have not taken Symbyax myself. As you probably already know, Symbyax consists of 2 different drugs. They are Prozac which is an antidepressant of course and Zyprexa which is an antipsychotic that is also used for mood disorders. I have taken both drugs but not at the same time so I really can't say what to expect. I hope that it helps you while you are waiting to get to a therapeutic dose of Lamictal.

Hi,

Glad you realised you needed help. Symbax is another version of prozac. Donīt know if youīve ever heard of it, but it has been around for a while and is excellent. I hope your pdoc cautioned you on the possibly of mania with this drug, so itīs important to look for symptoms of mania while on it. It also contains Zyprexa, which is a psychotic for treating mood disorders. I was on zyprexa for a short period, but stopped it because I gained so much weight.

You say you started symbax 3/25? That was 4 mo ago and both should have kicked in and on a maintenance dose. I too am on lactimal and another anti-depressant, effexor.

Good luck to you!

I gained a crazy amount of weight on Zyprexa, too.

I've never been on Symbyax, but I suspect it wouldn't help me because Prozac (like all other SSRIs for me) either did nothing or made me feel worse. Can't remember I've tried so many until they gave up on that class.

I'm currently where you were some time ago in terms of quitting drs, meds, and therapy. They left me out in the cold with only a non-therapeutic dose of Lamictal for weeks on end and I begged for something to get me through these long hours, days, and weeks, but they wouldn't do anything (not add Abilify or whatever for a pick me up). My ideation got worse and worse until I just said, hell, I felt better before I tried to get help. I'm looking forward to going back to self-medicating (alcohol). I know it's not good for bipolar depression, but what else can I do when the professionals won't help me or listen to me? I never abused my meds, but they treated me like I was a child who didn't know what was good for me. They poisoned me to the point of wishing for death and now I'm the crazy one for wanting to quit them?

This was your post and here I am ranting about my situation. Sorry. I hope your docs listen to you and that you find the right combo. You certainly deserve to feel better. I think we all do.
