My biggest issue now is trying to find support and answers as to how to help my husband get social security benefits. He isn't able to fully hold down a job and hasn't been in nearly 8 years.

Is your spouse the one with bipolar disorder? Did he work prior to 8 years ago? If you go to the Social Security website, it will tell you about how to apply for disability income if he can be determined to be permanently disabled. Here's the link: www.ssa.gov There are guidelines on how to go about it. Many people also look into having an attorney assist them in filing for it because a high number of people are denied on the first application. Best of luck to you and your husband.
