i have memory problem after a manic episode, at least the worse episodes.
i don't remember doing some things other people insist happened. that or the memory is like a dream where details are sketchy. i don't mean whole days but events or things I've done. on the other end i seem to not be able to forget the dark times, when depressed it all comes flooding back even from 20 + yrs ago.
sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks for this!

I have the same memory issues with mania. I consider it a blessing, not a curse. I wouldn't want to remember in great detail what happened. My memory seems just as foggy with being depressed.

Its safe to say my memory in general is bad. Which isn't as bad when considering there events you wish to forget.

I have the same problem.

A t I once had said it is a common phenomenon called "sealing off" It's where you forget lots of stuff that happened during your episode.

Like, supposedly I had visual and auditory hallucinations. I have no memory of that and I think people must be making it up or I just told them that to be funny and they took it seriously. I have no idea...

I have that too...forgetting things in mania, but TBH, I often drink during manic episodes too, so some of it is blackouts...drunk dialing conversations, etc. But not always. The mania makes you very in the moment, so it's easy to not store things in your long term memory. It's one flight of fancy to another and you have no idea how you got there, but you don't care.

This is my experience anyway.

I think what bothers me the most is that i'm not sure why people are mad or just stop talking to me. I always get that lie of omission, the one where they act like nothings wrong but the whole relationship changes.

I'm sorry you are losing relationships due to an episode of your illness. One of the most distressing things about being ill is the effect it has on social relationships.
But a true friend well understand if you tell them that it is your illness not you as a person who does inappropriate things at times.

I've had it happen to me. During my last psychotic episode I remember cycling to the supermarket to buy some stuff and return back home walking. After a couple of hours I hadn't the slightest idea of where my bike was, whether it had been stolen or what. That was the tipping point where I decided to seek help, fortunately for me I found my bicycle on my way to the doctor
