Hey everyone has anyone heard of or had a problem with passing out from one of these meds. My son is on high dose of lamictal and 5mg of abilify. He has been taking lamictal for many mths now but the abilify for only 2 mths. He says the abilify is making him nauseated and today he passed out in Movie Gallery. I was not with him(he is 22) but a customer called me and the ambulance. They said he was fine other than bloodpressure being a little low. He is fine now. He takes both of these at night. I believe is supposed to split the lamictal up but I think he is taking them all at once. If someone could give their thoughts I would really appreciate it. I took abilify years ago and after only one pill the next morning I was close to the same as he was today. Didn't take it anymore.

Thanks everyone

I think it's the Abilify. I've only been on it for a few weeks, but i notice a drop in blood pressure about an hour after I take it. My arms and legs feel very heavy and I get dizzy and off balance if I stand up too fast. I've been on Lamictal for 10 weeks without any probs except for hypomania and tingling sensations on my skin as of late. But I got as high as 10mg on Abilify and the blurred vision and heavy limbs caused the psych doc to reduce it back to 5mg and I'm going off of it completely in a couple of days. Going on Risperidone instead.

But you need to talk to the p-doc if your son can't do it for himself. This is a dangerous situation, obviously both in the short and long term. There isn't always a decent place to fall when this happens, like a carpet or couch versus the street.

I hope you find some answers soon.

p.s. you know their pushing this Abilify because it's NEW - well NEW or NOT it DOES NOT WORK...
So mister manufactures and those prescribing it BACK OFF

I've never taken lamictal, but I did try Abilify once. I was sicker than I have ever been and felt very strange and spacey. I didn't pass out, but I sure as hell couldn't function while I was on it. I gave it up very quickly. I don't ever want to take it again.

Just who TF is Abilify supposed to be designed for, since we all have bad experiences with it?

We are going by the mental health clinic today to leave a message for his doc. Don't have high hopes with that though. They move people thru their like cattle. Oh as far as the lamictal he is taking 400mg. High I think. Thanks everyone.

Even the p-doc that my insurance pays for only gives 15 mins for meds management. I guess that's pretty typical. I hope they address the problem well and I wish you and your son much luck. I'm on 300 lamictal and feel great now that I'm coming off of Abilify. Again, just my experience.

Hey yall just wanted to give yall an update. He was able to see the doc when he went by and the doc said stop abilify and drop lamictal to 200mg once a day. He told him he should have come off of abilify if it was making him really nauseated. DUH if maybe he didn't have to wait 3 mths to see the doc he would know what to do. So frustrating! From some reading on the boards most people have increased energy with lamictal but he is taking his at night. How does it affect yall? Thanks again (:

Glad to hear he got off the abilify. I was on it once and passed out cracked my head open. All my friends said I just fell over. That was the only new med I had taken at that time. Stopped it immediately.

I take 150mg in the am and 150mg in the pm. If I don't split the dose I get a headache about half an hour before my dose and half an hour after before it wears off. I was only taking it at night before I explained this problem to my p-doc. She said it was fine to gradually split the dose. I'm pretty sure I'm hyper from Lamictal and Wellbutrin, but LM was added far more recently (10 weeks ago vs. one year ago), so I blame it for the last 6 weeks of hypo/mania (not sure which).

Some people are stimulated by LM, other people get super drowsy on it. If he's super "up" that's another phone call question to see if he can gradually switch his dose from PM to AM. Don't do anything without talking to DR and getting instructions though.

Obviously I am not a doctor. But it would be fun if I were. Then I could try whatever meds I potentially needed and get rid of the bad ones without having to ask someone's permission. (It probably doesn't work that way, but I'm in a weird mood/imaginationland).

Hope your son gets to feeling better without Abilify.

I think they designed it just for me...I always knew I was extra-flaky!

Overall it has been a big help for me...but yeah, I did have some strange feelings early on. (Then again, this whole stupid illness has been one big series of strange feelings! )

artlace, I do agree with the others...between Lamictal and Abilify, I have had more side effects from Abilify. (Currently take both.)
