I have been relatively stable for a few years now, but I feel like my life has hit a dead end. I want to make changes; i.e. play a strenuous sport, quit smoking, etc., but I always feel afraid to make a change like that because I'm scared it's going to make me either manic or depressed. Does anyone else feel like their life has been on "pause" when their stable, and is afraid to make big changes?

I haven't felt on pause for many years, but yes, I know what it feels like. The two changes you mentioned are such positive moves. I think you should work on these. I don't think that either are going to put you into a manic phase or a funk. Maybe you could do both at the same time.

I am bipolar plus.

Yes changes of any type affect my stabilization. If it is a temporary situation, you should make it through.

If it's something you want to take on and continue you may have to change your medication a bit.

But it's worth it if you want to get out...

I pat you on the back for wanting to make progress
