I posted before about nearing hypomania. Well I was flying high, but trying to be level headed and take my meds, get my sleep (by taking my meds) and keeping in contact with my T (to encourage me to take my meds) when all of a sudden my mother (who I live with) had a temper tantrum. ( i used to be in an abusive relationship) and I had a flashback of sorts. My mood just plunged, I got really withdrawn and kind of shut down my emotions. I contacted my T and he gave me some coping skills for the next time she rages. He said he was very concerned about the low mood and doesn't want me to take another dive into depression.

That was yesterday. Today, I am flat, drained and tired. Like I had a month long manic episode and I am crashing off of it.

My question is: Can PTSD cause a bipolar mood swing??????

I suppose anything could cause a mood swing. I tend to dislike loud noises, especially the sound of angry people. It can set off a mini swing for me, so I guess if you have PTSD, your swing would be deeper than someone who doesn't. I don't know much about it though. I hope this helps a little.

You're doing the right thing by staying in close touch with your T.

(((((((Berries)))))))) It may not be anything to do with the bipolar and is a response to the flashback. I feel very much like that if I have had an experience and my anxiety gets triggered. It is an intensely exhausting experience. Take it easy, realx as much as you can, and good for you for getting intouch with your doc. HUggs, honey. It's going to be OK. I'm pretty sure of that.

I've been discussing with my therapist about possible PTSD from chronic bullying throughout school (K on up) and I know that certain things that remind me of that time cause mood events. The numb feeling you describe sounds like what I feel after a hard swing, expecially when I used to have 3-6 hour rapid swings. Rage to misery to "SPLAT" drained and numb.
