I'm on meds and was doing great, but I'm getting stressed out again, and I'm getting over-emotional again, crying and getting upset over stupid stuff... and when I'm in an emotional state, I have some psychosis. Just now, I heard my grandma in the other room say "Get me a knife" and so I go in there and was like "What do you need a knife for?" and she was like "I didn't say that..."

This has me worried now.

You probably need to consider getting back on your meds. I don't know anyone (I'm sure they exist) who can control bipolar without meds. Try calling your pdoc or a pdoc and getting an appointment. Hearing voices is a sign of losing control, imo.

I hope you feel better soon.

I started the post by saying I'm on meds... anyway that was the only time it happened.

It might be breakthrough symptoms. Maybe you need a change in dose. I would call the p-doc and just run through what your recent symptoms have been. He/she can decide if you need any changes or just need to monitor your symptoms. Good luck.

I do not have bipolar disorder but do have a good deal of personal experience with psychosis. Sometimes I “misread” things as well as “mis-hear” things. Our minds are funny things and people mishear stuff all the time. The problem is when we have a tendency to suffer from psychosis we tend to hear a lot of negative stuff.

Perhaps if you viewed it as only an isolated incident where you simply didn’t hear something correctly instead of focusing on what you think you actually heard that may help relieve some of the stress. Stress is not a friend to someone on the verge of psychosis. Please take care of yourself.

It is worth mentioning this to your doctor but try not to dwell on it or it will consume you and cause more stress than you already have. This may or may not be worth adjusting meds. Sometimes the meds simply cannot do everything. They are not a miracle but rather a tool you have at your disposal. When my meds have not worked I have found a shift in my thinking has helped.

I wish you the very best.
Thanks for this!

I definitely agree with other. Just from what you typed, it doesn't sound like what you're hearing is too incredibly bad, but you know I'm sure better than I do that that can be the start to something a lot worse. I mean if it only happened that once and otherwise you're fine then maybe just watching to see what happens is okay, but if you're not doing well otherwise (like it sounds like you geting overly stressed might be triggering some stuff) I would either be calling your pdoc or T if you have one. I wish you the best. The positive thing is you see that things are changing and it sounds like you're concerned enough to be on top of it and in control at this point. Bravo for that.

As the others mentioned, at least you recognize the change. I however, would not take it so lightly. I have a question though- was your grandmother really there? Either way, I would mention this to your doc. It may or may not require a change. Either way, good for you for being honest with yourself and others. Like the reply before, don't dwell, but you should ask your doctor about it.

Yes, grandma was really there, she lives here. My old delusion slightly popped out last night too, I got triggered by something someone said in chat and had me thinking it was true again, on and off.

It does sound like break through symptoms. Sometimes even if you have been doing great with a medication, it may need to be tweaked now and then. Sounds kind of bothersome, though. Do you recognize the type and the content of what you heard? Huggs. I HATE when I start hearing people say things they didn't.
