Lately my depression has included physical aches and pains. I use the phrase "my everything hurts" because it really does. My back, my ankles, my feet, my head. It all goes away when my mood starts to lift. I was just wondering if anyone else has this happen. It seems that all the pain is in my head yet so real. There isn't any injury or activity that causes it, usually. It just hurts.

i get pain on both sides of the coin. general aches and pains when depressed. but when mania comes knocking it's tension in neck and back mostly, headaches and occasionally muscle spasms.

i can tell when an episode is coming on by some of the physical symptoms.

Hey Trixa... physical pain is often a symptom of depression. When I'm depressed I often have vague pain complaints... many people do. Sometimes pain is the only complaint. It's weird how that work but it all has to do with brain chemicals. You're not weird for having pain with depression at all. It's really common. Take care!!!

This is my experience too. In fact the physical stuff is worse than the mood disorder. I wonder if subsconsciously I feel it is more 'acceptable' to have physical things wrong than MI. If I feel well, I begin to feel extremely well with boundless energy and feelings of joy. This means that I am going to crash sometime soon.

My T has told me that when we are depressed that our bodies and immune systems treat it as a physical illness. It makes sense that the body would get achy as it does with a virus. I get aches and pains including headaches on a regular basis, but much moreso during depression.

so so so normal. so normal.

when people are fighting cancer, they can survive through so much. but a lot of times they loose the battle if they get depressed. that happened for my great grandmother. after 100 years, one day she got sad and she just never recovered. to me that is proof of the psychological/physical connection.

i feel pains all the time. headaches... like i am living in a fog.

Thanks for all the insight. Psychosomatic pains are so much worse than real pain. I can't just take some Tylenol and feel better. It helps that I'm not the only one with this problem. I was starting to feel a little nuts. hehe
