Hi,
I wrote in the depression forum a couple days ago about how to help my little sister as she deals with the fact that her father is a jerk. However, it's obviously effected her moods...she's now having frequent and violent peroids of anger and sadness. She's in Kung Fu, and the other day I watched her punch, kick and throw all of mom's couch cushions. I'm really worried about her. Mom's set up a counseling appointment, but I'd like to help her as best as I can, as I'm dealing with bipolar and know how hard dealing with mood swings is. Please, any advice is greatly appreciated. If you'd like to get the full story, please read the thread entitled "My Sister Needs Help" in the depression forum. Thank you

You might be able to do some things that might help her deal with her anger and sadness. One thing you can do is distract her from those moods... offer to play a game with her or watch a movie with you... Instead of posing activities as something to help her you might state it more in the tone of "would you play xxx with me?" "please watch this movie with me. I would really like it." If she thinks she is helping you she may be less likely to refuse. Even though she is becoming physical, at least she is taking it out on objects, even those she really can't hurt or hurt herself with like soft pillows and cushions.
