Hi there, welcome to PC, I was DXed 5 years ago after family stuff triggered this, my DX is Bipolar-II(mild) and ADD (mild) and I take meds. probably for life but I have learned to accept that, just as it took me awhile to accept I have a disorder, there is so much more I can tell you about my deal, but this reply is for you, I say "don't ever let anyone make you feel alienated due to mental disorder, don't let the stupid stigmas stand in your way.
Okay, the feeling you have right now, is pretty normal, I still get to feeling like that at times. PLEASE feel free to talk to us, even PM's are fine.
It will take you awhile to get use to all this new stuff, can be scarey talking to a therapist, etc. in time you can build up a good repore and gain a lot from just talking with a T, the reason it is good vs talking to family members, it has no bias, and it would be good for your husband to talk to a T or if your area has group meetings, like our medical center has, they set up workshop/support group meetings for friends and family with friends or family with disorder(s), educating them about this stuff, which in turn is designed to help them cope with us during rough spots, plus educates them about meds., treatment, and most of all educates them about us not wanting the disorder, have no control that it happened to us, it is something connected with chemical imbalances in our brain, mostly genetic.
Once you have been to therapy a few times, it shall get easier, and if you are on meds. and adjustment and therapeutic dosages have been established, things will work, unfortunately, time it takes varies person to person and how much or little, situational stresses are contributing to this.
My wish for you is strength, patience, keep an open mind, love yourself and in time it will get better.
We are here for you FEELING LONELY AND HELPLESS.....................
Lots of love and luck to you,
DE
