I feel like I am drowning in all my problems, not just bi polar but everything. Everytime I try to swim to the surface something catches my foot. Then I try harder and get more entaggled in what I am caught on.

I have often felt like I was drowning. The only thing that I could do, was to clear up all the issues at hand. Than after sinking to the bottom, with nothing left to deal with, I would try to rebuild myself.

While rebuilding myself, I would reflect on what were the major issues that messed things up. Sorry to say after 30years, history comes close to repeating itself.

However I have not had a major episode in six years.

Keep swimming, although you feel like your drowning, looking for help on a site like this shows that you are trying and that you will make it.
Thanks for this!

Hang in there Caring.... I often use the sinking metaphor thing too. I think it's so accurate. Just when you get your head above the surface something happens to drag you back down. I guess the best advice comes from Finding Nemo... "just keep swimming." As scripted as that is (literally), when I get that feeling I run that quote through my head and somehow it helps. Just please hang in there and keep treading the water. You know things ebb and flow in the life with mental illness. It's just the way it is I suppose. Take care
