I'm needing to know more than the net. tells me about how , if at all ,the body's blood sugar is affected or how blood sugar affects bipolar disorder . I did not sleep well last night , only about three hours. I read on Mayo clinic site (I think ) that lack of sleep can create a higher level of blood sugar that can I think induce mania type reaction. I am confused as I got up feeling awake ( from 3:00 am ) all morning until I ate some cereal with about 26 grams sugar at about 11:00 am. I began feeling sick ,anxious and just not well at all about an hour later. I will be asking my doc. about this ,but until I see him , Can any one give me some idea what is going on . It is 1:30 pm now and I feel a bit better but still not great , I'm jumpy nervous . Thank you .

The only thing I've ever heard as far as bipolar and blood sugar problems relates to medication related things. Some antipsychotics can raise your blood sugar to dangerous levels.

Also, people in general can feel badly when their blood sugar spikes and falls.

I notice that I feel better after I eat..maybe a blood sugar thing going on with me. It will be interesting to see what other people have experienced.

Probably, it has gotten worse with my kidney support diet. Hard to get the calories when restricting protein.
I hate to eat when I am not hungry too. It is a balancing act and maybe I should make sure I have some candy with me. I have food in my car.

I'd mention it to your doctor. The two may not be related, but I know I have days like that myself. I do suspect at times that my body's response to too much sugar is not a positive one.

A Naturopath that I know says that high blood sugar can cause extreme irritability, which makes me laugh b/c I am on Geodon and it is suppose to cause high blood sugar, yet Geodon is supposed to curb my irritability! LOL!
