Sorry I haven't been around much...
I lost my freaking health insurance and I'm absolutely flipped out. Forgot to sign the check to Cobra....and they cancel without any chance of reinstatement. How in the HELL am I going to get insurance with all of my conditions....rhetorical. I'm just venting. Right now I really need to be able to see my Dr...and I'll just have to pay out of pocket, I guess. God. Things have not been good. Upped to 100 mg. of Lamictal, and I can't tell if it's making things worse, rather than better. I don't know if I should drop back down to 50. Has anyone else been better on lower doses of Lamictal? I can't really go to the doc right now...schedule is jam packed and he's 4 hours away. I have to call and check in with him today, as I was such a mess I think he was quite worried. I have like 30 people coming this weekend to entertain (4th of July party) and I'm overwhelmed. I wish I could just get hypomanic...horrible to say, but god life is so much better when I feel well. Any ideas on the lamictal? Thanks guys. Love you all!

The usual therapeutic levels of Lamictal start at 100mg. But, others have taken less and had results. If you feel it is not working for you, talk to your pdoc, he may want to change meds.

Are there any mental health clinics where you are at? And you are gonna think I'm crazy but you may try the Catholic Church. They may help you with some money until you can get some of your own. And Lamictal is generic now if that is any comfort to you. Call around and google. You may find some help with meds closer than your pdoc. Good luck.

I never did well on a low does of lamictal, I am currently on 400mg a day. This seems to work well for me, but if I forget to take it in the morning, i feel it by noon. - So I make sure I keep backup supplies at work and in the car- just in case.
I was put on 25- then 50 then 100mg for my first year on it, but it did not help and so with my Dr. we upped it to 200, then 250, then 300, then 400, the 450 then back down to 400 over the course of a year Which has worked well for me- even well enough to drop my citalapram. Remember it takes around 30 days to see any affects... There are free clinics and clinics that charge on a sliding scale that would most likely be able to help you continue on your meds. Some of them have a waiting list especially for psych stuff. So I would try and get in there now. If you are willing to pay full boat for a doctor visit, your doc might be able to give you a longer perscription to get you by until you can figure out insurance and get back on your feet. As far as the cost of lamictal... generics run about $4 for a 100mg, but $6.50 for a 200mg, so I would see if your doc will perscribe 200mg tablets that you can cut in half. Going off lamictal abruptly can trigger a manic episode, give you headaches etc.. so I would get back on it ASAP. I have had my pharmacy give me an emergency supply before to get me by- so you could check into that. Quote:

I also posted this on someone elses thread but it may be of use here as well. I found a program through GlaxoSmithKline, http://www.bridgestoaccess.com/ , That offers non-cancer medications to those who meet certain criteria. Whenever you DO get in to see someone, make sure you print out an application and bring it in, just in case they dont do it. Getting on these patient assistance programs is a huge relief.
My docs office filled paperwork for me (without me asking for it)... and I now pay $5 a month for Lamictal Name Brand, 200mg/day. I wish you the best of luck

I'm on 200mg of Lamictal and I feel that it has helped. I think my dose needs to be upped a little now as I have taken it for 2 years. You can also try Wal Mart for the med. They have a program for people with low income or no insurance and you can get some meds for as little as 5 dollars. I don't know if you would have to fill out any paper work but, I would give them a call and see what they say.
