My 8 year old fell over a soccer ball and may have a broken foot. I am bringing him to the doctor's office at 8 tonight for an x-ray.

Poor kid.

Well, that's not good. Hope your son is okay and didn't break anything.

There was something on the x-ray that the doctor thinks is his growth plate. the radiologist will read it tomorrow and tell me for sure. Poor kid can't walk and the office didn't have any crutches. The doctor hopes the pain will be reduced by morning and he will be able to walk. If not, we have to buy him some crutches at a medical supply store.

Going to buy crutches in a few minutes. He still can't walk. I still have a feeling it is broken and the doctor just couldn't see it, although they are usually good at reading x-rays.

My niece broke her wrist falling off the see-saw a few weeks ago. The original doc didn't think it was broken, but then a radiologist looked at it a few days later and said it was. The doc just comes and tells my sister (my niece was coincidentally in the hospital that day to have tubes put in her ears)... "Oh by the way, it was broken...I saw the break on the x-ray but because she didn't cry when I pushed on it, I figured it must not have really been broken". Needless to say, my sister was pissed and took her to her regular doc's office for a new x-ray and a cast.

If you think its broken, you can always try to get them to do another x-ray.

I hope he's alright.

It is not broken according to the radiologist, but he still can't walk. I think he has a little improvement in his pain. If he is not better by Friday, I am to call the doctor's office again.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the update. Sorry your son's in so much pain and I hope he feels better. Are you putting ice on it and is he resting his foot?

Once my daughter fell off a chair and landed on her elbow. We took her to the ER and the stupid doctor couldn't see the fracture on her elbow and assumed it was a dis-located elbow. So she kept twisting and turning, while my daughter screamed in agony. I was told to come back at 6:00 am to have an Orthopedic Specialist look at it and sure enough it was fractured - I was so mad and disappointed with that ER doctor.

Generally ER doctors around here really don't seem to know nor care what they are doing. I have a kidney/bladder disease and I went to the ER on Christmas Eve once because of it. I told them the problem and told them what I needed. Instead they gave me phenagren (spelling?) because the Dr swore my problem was that I had DIARRHEA!?!

He woke up and was able to walk a bit, but then it started hurting again and he needed his crutches. I guess that is an improvement. He definitely won't be running around the soccer field on Saturday.
Thanks for this!

It is crazy how they can heal at that age. When my cousin was six a snowboarder ran over him breaking both his femurs. They couldn't promise he would walk again. He is eighteen, a champion skier and truth be told I wish sometimes there was something holding that kid back just a little.
Thanks for this!

It does sound like he's improving! That's great...I do hope that he continues to get better. (((BNLsMOM))) (((BNLsMOM's son)))
