The Gaslight Effect by Dr Robin Stern is a brilliant description of a common way that people take advantage of us: partners, family members, doctors, salespeople, you name it. These people are trying to "baffle you with ********" and make you think you are somehow at fault. In the classic movie, "Gaslight", the origin of this term, the husband tries to make the wife think she's crazy.
