I have the strangest thing going on in my mouth and it is absolutely driving me crazy. I know I'm holding a lot of tension in my jaw but this has more to do with the sides of my mouth, inside, getting trapped between my teeth, etc. I'm holding my tongue against the roof of my mouth for some reason.....I think to keep from clamping my teeth together and because of some sort of compulsion. I saw the dentist last week for a routine cleaning and he assured me that everything was normal. But this isn't. Can anyone relate to this or is it just me? I'm
on Lamictal and a miniscule amount of Abilify...... |

It sounds a lot like Tardive Dyskinesia. Which I know Abilify can cause (Not sure if Lamictal causes it or not, since it's anticonvulsant instead). But repetitive, uncontrollable movements of the mouth is a huge indication that this might be it. I would see your doc right away and tell him. He may need to change your med. It can happen with things as common as Cymbalta in people that are susceptible to it. So please get in to see your doc. In most cases, the movements will stop once you stop taking the med. Hope that helps.

I agree with beautifuldisaster78 on that one. Sounds like tardive dyskinesia. Get to your doc as soon as you can. Did you start the Abilify or Lamictal recently?

It does help beautifuldisaster78. I will definitely bring it to my psych's attention. Now that you mention it, I remember having a TD discussion with him awhile back over the twitches I have in my hand and leg. The mouth thing is new......maybe all three have grown into Tardive Dyskinesia? I will check into it right away because this is getting intolerable. Thanks again......greylove

Hi Skully.....I've been on Lamictal for a few months, but the Abilify is quite new. I was taking the lowest dose (2mg) but then my doc halved that again......I split the pill. I'll talk to him about eliminating it and see if that makes a difference. Here's hoping. Thank you.....greylove

TD is not fun. When I had it, I could not stop blinking my eyes, and my tongue kept trying to roll over (yeah, I know it sounds weird but that's the only way I know how to say it).
I still get tics every once in a while, mainly if I'm hyper-focused on something or really tired. |

Huh. I'm on Lamictal and haven't had these kinds of things going on (not that that means anything), *but* what you write about rang a bell right away from when I was on citalopram (misdiagnosed/mismedicated, but that's another story...). Jaw tension like CRAZY. Unrelenting, exhausting, and it frequently felt like my whole jaw was misaligned and I couldn't figure for the life of me how it was supposed to set. Tongue pressing on the top of the mouth too.

Exactly Innerzone! The whole jaw thing.....I thought my whole bite had shifted, and the tongue and the teeth and the sides of my mouth.....it's SO busy in there. I hope it's the Abilify, although it's the smallest amount, because I know it isn't the Lamictal. So glad to know someone else knows exactly what I'm describing. It's weird, isn't !?

I've started grinding my teeth at night since I've been on psychiatric meds. I also have quite sever twitches in my shoulder every now and again, and sometimes suffer from migraines which I cannot explain

I have migraines too. I didn't have them until recently and I haven't changed anythin with my meds. I went to a neurologist for them and they have been putting me on new meds everytime I go but nothing has touched them. I also do the mouth thing. My tongue practically stays at the top of my mouth and I grind my teeth all the time! I also shake in my hands all the time. Could this be TD?

I bounce my leg up and down at a rapid pace at times. My teeth grinding is very irregular. My migraines too. The irony is that I am on Epilim, which is sometime prescribed for migraines
