Getting a bit fed up about the negative attention Bipolar seems to always create when it comes to lyrics.
This creates a serious misconception for people who do not know about BP, and naturally paints the disease in a terrible light.

Apart from Katy Perry's song "Hot 'n Cold", I came across another one this morning:

Train's "You Already Know":

This bipolar love affair
It just ain't where it's at for me anymore
So don't let the door hit you when you leave

You throw me in the fire just to save my life
A pretty little liar
When I call you out you'd rather put up a fight than just come clean

Get on your way to making someone else feel low
Then higher than they ever thought they could go
You already know

I'm giving you up, you're letting me down
Stop pretending that you're gonna turn yourself around

You already know, know, know
You already know, know, know, know
Don't ask me why you already know

I was the shoulder you leaned on
You made me feel like the next James Bond
Double O seven oh hell, you were heaven to me

But while you were saying what I wanted to hear
You started breaking ground on a new frontier
Always making love but never to me

So get on your way to making someone else feel low
Then higher than they ever thought they could go
You already know

I'm giving you up, you're letting me down
Stop pretending that you're gonna turn yourself around

You already know, know, know
You already know, know, know, know
Don't ask me why you already know

You already know that I'm done waiting
Going crazy hating myself for loving you
At least the one side of you I thought I knew

You already know
You already know, know, know, know
You already know, know, know, know
Don't ask me why

This is my bipolar song...

Doth I Protest Too Much lyrics
: Alanis Morissette

I'm not threatened, by every pair of legs you watch go by
I don't cringe when you stare at women, it's just a thing called guy
I don't notice your side ways glances or where your loyalty lies
I'm secure and out of me, it's hard to get a rise

I'm not jealous
I don't get moved by much
I'm not enraged
Not insecure as such
Not going insane
Rational stays in touch
Doth I protest too much?

I'm not tortured by how oft your busy, Cause I've got things to do
I'm not disappointed about how you don't miss you me, cause I don't need you to

I'm not needy
I don't get clingy much
I'm not scared
I'm not afraid as such
I'm not dependent
Rock solid, stays in touch
And Doth I protest too much?

So much energy to prove to you
Who I can't possibly be
So much energy to prove to you
I'm not who you hate for me to be

I'm not saddened
And I don't miss you
Cause I have moved on too
I'm not concerned about your new lover
Cause I have a new lover too

I'm not depressed
I don't get down that much
I'm not despondent
I am not dark as such
I'm never sad
Keep Chin Up, Stays in touch
And Doth I protest too much?

I'm not jealous
I don't get moved by much
I'm not enraged
Not insecure as such
Not going insane
Rational stays in touch
And Doth I protest too much?

Chevelle -
Jars

Hold onto chance
Lest we bleed ourselves
Save for the pets
They’re the loneliest

Put into jars
We’ll save this earth
Put into jars
We’ll save the earth

We can’t both become the same pawn
That's made to fall
Oil that tastes like
Blood stole the summer scent
From me to you
You're stabbing me through you
You're stabbing you through him
And betting most of
This world
We’ll add enough of the world

Steal from yourselves
It never felt so good
And feed from their hand’s
Confuse by opposites

Put into jars
We’ll save this earth
Put into jars
Keep safe this earth

Feeling manic for a day
Depends on the trends
Depends on the surface
If the sun never sets

This world
We’ll add enough of the world
Is the main thing you’ll shout
Till the bitter end

Into Jars

Shinedown - The Sound of Madness

Yeah, I get it,
You're an outcast.
Always under attack.
Always coming in last,
Bringing up the past.
No one owes you anything.
I think you need a shotgun blast,
A kick in the ***,
So paranoid. . .
Watch your back!!

Oh my, here we go...

Another loose cannon gone bi-polar
Slipped down, couldn't get much lower.
Quicksand's got no sense of humor.
I'm still laughing like hell.
You think that the cryin to me,
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe,
You've been infected by a social disease.
Well, then take your medicine.

I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself?

I'm so sick of this tombstone mentality,
If there's an afterlife,
Then it'll set you free.
But I'm not gonna part the seas
You're a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You think that cryin to me,
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe,
You've been infected by a social disease.
Well, then take your medicine.

I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself?

I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up...
When you gonna wake up and fight...

I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself?

When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself?

Queen - the last one is painfully true and accurate!

this is my all-time favourite,

Tori Amos's Carbon

carbon-made found her at the end of a chain
"time to race", she said, "race the downhill!"

Behind crystalline irises loons can dive
where the world bleeds white

just keep your eyes on her
keep, don't look away
keep your eyes on her horizon

Bear Claw, Free Fall, a Gunner's View
black and blue
shred in ribbons of lithium

blow by blow, her mind cut in sheets
layers deep, now unraveling

just keep your eyes on her
keep, don't look away
keep your eyes on her horizon

get me Neil on the line, no i can't hold
have him read 'Snow Glass Apples" where nothing is what it seems

"Little Sis, you must crack this", he says to me. "You must go in again. Carbon-made only wants to be unmade."

blade to ice, it's Double Diamond time

and keep your eyes on her
keep, don't look away
keep your eyes on her eyes, on her horizon
on her eyes, on her horizon

Katertot: I love that Tori song! I never even thought about the words and what they meant! Hmmm.

As for the original post, I agree that songs like that are made by ignorant sons of *****es who don't know any better. There is a band called Blue October and the lead singer is bipolar I believe. He has some great songs that I can relate to instead of being cast off as some freak. Number 8 on his new cd is awesome. I don't know the name, might be "how long." Not sure, but check him out!
Thanks for this!

Thanks onomat - I was never aware of the number of songs out there, until the Katy Perry one, and also having just found out a friend is BP. Funny that a few months later I'd be dx'd.
It's just so hurtful that this always has to be shed in such a negative light rather than educating people. As if the pain and anguish of the actual condition is not enough to deal with

I don't know but I think all of Britney Spears' lyrics are sorta bipolar. I mean she goes from depressed to really promiscuous and its like I find her music to be more bipolar than any one elses.

You are correct that's what my profile name is named after. The lead singer is named, Justin Furstenfeld and he is diagnosed. They are an amazing band! My other favorite singer is Matthew Good. He is also diagnosed and very outspoken about the illness. His CD "Hospital Music" was written after being hospitalized / diagnosed (October 2006). Here is a link to his website speaking about the diagnosis etc. He is awesome and he is also going to be my future husband (he just doesn't know it yet LOL)
