I hate self diagnosing, but I'd thought I'd ask the opinion of the PC forum users.

Both users on PC and my friends suspect I don't have depression, more bipolar disorder. At first I was unsure about this, then I discovered cyclothamic bipolar disorder.

It's really strange how my mood seems to change as often as hourly...without any obvious trigger or reason. It isnt a slow change either. Sometimes I can feel the depressive episode coming on, though most of the time I'm very jolly and then suddenly I am crying and have urges to self harm.

Thinking back I remember Dr Bates at hospital about a week before discharging me questioning my decision to start a new business in Computer repairs...of which I had already begun by purchasing a domain name and hosting account with my mother's paypal account without her consent. I saw then though what he was trying to do, and instead of telling him the truth (that I was planning to invest over £400 in this business) I told him I was thinking of investing a maximum of £50.

I associate this with the recklessness of bipolar disorder, after hearing the opinions of some of my online aquantances.

I've already mentioned the unexplained and normally almost instead mood change.

Additonally last night I got drunk for the first time in 20 weeks, drinking a whole bottle of vodka (70cl) in an hour or so.

I know this is the question I should be asking a psychiatrist...and I shall be speaking to her if I can get an appointment shortly. I just wanted to know all your opinions as well.

Thank You.

Welcome In_The_Darkness yes a Psychiatrist is the way to go. So many mental illnesses share symptoms, so it's important to speak to a Professional. While you are waiting for your appointment I would suggest tracking your mood and see if there is anything that is triggering it (i.e. stress, food, caffeine, alcohol etc.) A good free online one is located at http://www.medhelp.org/land/mood-tracker

The only one you should accept a diagnosis from is a trained professional. But, you might want to look at Borderline Personality Disorder under the conditions button of PsychCentral. In BPD, there are mood disturbance along with impulsiveness and self harm (or urges to self harm). Actually, here is the link.

I would get into my p-doc as soon as possible. They are the only ones that can give you a true diagnosis. I would tell them that it's an emergency and that you need t be see as soon as possible. That should help get you in sooner. Good luck and keep us posted!

Did an online test. I see Borderline as the most feasable explanation. The uncontrollable anger is one thing. For example, the other day I got extremely angry about my step dad and threw valuables against the wall...such as my iPod touch, my mobile and TV controls.
