Last summer I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. But all my life I've also had nightmares (not full blown nightmares, but I see dead people's faces when I close my eyes). I also always thinks there's something lurking in the dark, therefore I'm terrified of the dark now. This has progressively been getting worse lately. I've also heard voices but only a few times in my life (I'm 21). I haven't been sleeping well lately because of my nightmares. I obviously have mood swings which are getting worse too. Is any of this normal?

When was the last time that you saw your Pdoc and T? They both need to know about your nightime troubles. You may need a med change and talking to your T will also help. I am bipolar and sometimes I wake up, scared to death, and think there is someone in the room. It goes away for 6 months or so and then it happens again. That's my only experience with nightmares. pat

I would check with your doctor about the symptoms you are describing. It sounds very scary. Are you taking any medication for your bipolar?

I was on meds, I was on Lexapro and Lamictal, low doses. I have stopped as of several months ago. But even while taking them, they did not help my nightmares, fears, wthat have you.
