You decide to get a PhD in Clinical Psychology even though you struggle with math and science.

But you buy the books to study for the GRE's anyway and figure you can learn everything you need to know with flashcards in only two short weeks.

I really did..but in my defense I don't think I was the ONLY reason. OK..so I wore mini-skirts with four inch heels, didn't do much work and demanded lots of meetings to discuss much-o-nothing.

And I somehow got him to give my work out to the other people in his department because I didn't really feel like working.

(When he left..omg..did I get crap from everyone. Six months later I quit.)

(Love this thread btw, SunnyD!) Hehe, thought I'd already posted here (and had to check 3 times!), but think now that that was the night of the disppearing posts and computer freeze up.

Waking up one morning and saying, "Let's sell the house and move 3000 miles to **!!!" -- a place we'd never even visited, and kiddo was 2 at the time. (Yeah, for real and did it too. Ex did insist on a small visit there first. I thought it was completely unnecessary, but relented.)

Thinking I'd start a business making furniture, even though I had no skills or proper tools (hammer, drill and chisel anyone?) whatsoever and only a bunch of branches someone was going to haul to the dump. Oh, right. And working on them usually sent me into a rage. Great idea, that!

Standing and jumping in place for no reason whatsoever. And are not, say, 6 years old. Not by a long shot.

Imyourmonster, soooo hear you on the sensitivity thing! Took me quite awhile to figure that one out. Not only in physical feel. Clothes are sometimes "too loud". Not colorful, but literally, audibly too loud. One day really got very agitated and twitchy about this. Later in the day had a good meltdown rage. Taking a shower, no less. Should've been relaxing (fortunately stepped - stomped?- out of there before seriously hurting myself). That was the day the connection hit.

OMG WHAT A RIOT!!! You know, my mom is always saying she is going to sell her house and move to some country she's never been too and she isn't kidding. She does research and yells when you say this is unrealistic. However, she has spent all her money on a bizarre looking house that she can't afford with even more bizarre decor. She aint going anywhere.

Ohhh, this brings back some memories...I have an e-bay account to sell used books, I am forcing my way thru a medical transcription course (non-refundable is the only reason why), I was going to open a yarn shop, a tiki bar, a restaurant, get rich from writing my stories, be a life coach (still might give that one a try ), rent out garden plots to city folk, sing in a band...oh yeah, and when I was twelve, I was going to marry Donny Osmond...he never showed up...

You know you are manic.... when you spend $75.00 at the dollar store. The cashier said that was the most she ever saw anyone spend there, so I asked her to hang a plaque on the wall with my picture. lol

last night I thought that 2 am was the perfect time to decorate my laptop with my 3 year old niece's fluorescent flower stickers. I also like to rearrange furniture or at least plan it... I had a detailed plan of how to rearrange my sisters office and lounge room... then I got started in deriving formula's for working out where to divide a triangle into 3 strips of equal area in my head... then this morning went to the shops instead of work.... ooops... guess the docs right I am hypomanic

You decide to go for a walk and end up shoplifting $137 in God knows what at the grocery store, getting arrested and your pdoc finally decides to change your dx to bipolar. I still to this day do not know what all I grabbed off the store shelves!

LOL

Yeah..my time allocations go south during hypomania. I wake up REALLY early and since my socialization needs increase I decide other people want to wake up too and have long conversations.

Thanks NF! It made me think of one I can laugh about now..I was still on Prozac (and getting more manic by the minute), when I went to pick up a refill and they told me my doc refused to fill it. Turns out it was a mistake, but I basically had a meltdown and scared the crap out of the lady behind the counter. That was when I realized that if I was freaking out over meds I was taking to make me NOT freak out, maybe I was on the wrong meds! The other upside is that the lady at the pharmacy is really, really nice to me now.

Good morning everyone- I woke up feeling depressed and then logged on & read this thread which totally changed my mood! For now anyways.
I do alot of cleaning, decorating and lots of painting when manic. I think the walls in my living room are an inch or so thicker than when we moved in from all the paint! Just repainted it this week. The kitchen cabinets too.
And the clothing tags on my neck just drive me crazy! I never would have connected that before. The whole numbers thing on clocks and license plates too.

My doc refused to fill a repeat perscription for temazipam because he thought i might be becoming addicted... I went into a complete meltdown in his office screaming and raging, when i finally ran out of steam he looked at me really calmly and said "thats exactly WHY you can have any more" (i so wanted to punch his smug little face at that moment.. but he did have a point!)

Just a quick Q.... OK so when its really obvious you can't miss it... how can you tell before it goes too far...
I thought I could pick it but it devistated me that I completely missed the begining of a manic episode just coz it was euphoric not dysphoric..... Where does normality end and craziness start?????

Your pdoc tells you are manic after he discovers. . .

You racked up over $60,000 in credit card debt (2 months)
You spent over $7,000 on tattoos (never had any before)
You pierced almost every body part
You spent over $80,000 in cash and have enough pairs of high heels to make 25 women very, very happy
You dressed like a 21 year old at 49

And after all of this, my family still loves me and we can actually find some humor in this illness!
Thanks for this!

I hate to admit that I can relate to a few of the above items. Yes, you do have to find some humor in it.

[quote=imyourmonster;1486388]i usually know that i am on my way up to mania when my skin sensations become much more intense. certain areas being touched can become almost unbearable. for instance: my wrists (this is really a downer during winter, when i would prefer to be wearing hoodies/sweaters/etc.) or collared shirts bother the back of my neck.

Wow, I thought this was just me. Also I'm very sensitive of the fabric or material the garment is made of.

Yeah I relate to this as well. Mine wasn't quite as bad about $2,000 in a few months (all on clothes) but it was on a college student's budget so in real people money it's probably a lot more! Hah. And i got my ears pierced a bunch more times....
