Oh, it's like I've turned into what I used to be. Not quite as bad. But it's there. On Haldol I didn't talk much, didn't do much, didn't care much, just did what I needed to survive. Well, I was with a guy for 10 years. It was good until he started on crack and bankruptupted me.
Anyway, the 16 years of Haldol is about out of my system. Now I know many of you take anti-psycotics. But Haldol is heavy duty in that department. They usually don't give it to bipolars. And when they do, it's only for a short time then they put them on lithium. Why I was not, I do not know. My T thinks I ought to sue the Pdoc I had for 13 years that kept me on Haldol. Well, I'm talking more, I'm really into music, I'm talking at work and they think I'm crazy. I guess I just gotta get used to it. But it's hard. I am so paranoid of going manic even though it's been 16 years. I'm so used to being doped up on Haldol. My husband loves the "new me". So do my real friends. But people don't want you to talk. Thanks for listening my PC friends. Hugs, Owl. |

My pdoc has however been fighting them, so I'm not quite sure where I stand with them, I will know next week. I'm worried about the INTELLIGENCE of my medical aid people now ![]() I'm sorry I went off on a tangent like that and hogged your post. If it this new dimension is not bugging you, enjoy I say enjoy it. I'm still trying to get used to "appropriate" me... I'm still a WIP, but hey, we're all trying right ![]() ![]()

hang in there. You are being yourself. And it's only yr real friends that matter. I'm glad you managed to get off that drug-sure it couldn't have been easy.
And 16 years mania free is awesome. Just keep monitoring your moods, and at the first sign of hypomania, call your pdoc. And we're here for you too xx |

Hi owl, what meds are you on? Certainly from what you described from your reaction on haldol you are a new person, but I wouldn't ignore the possibility that you are shifting into hypomania and you may want to bring it up with your p-doc.
At work when I can't control my chatter box, joke a mile a minute I know that I'm starting to get too high. I'm certainly not a recluse in my normal day to day life, but talking too much for me especially at work can be an indicator that's something is not right. It's worth bring up with your p-doc.

Trippin, Haldol is an anti-psycotic usually used for skitophrenics (can't spell). They rarely give it to bipolars. I went really psycotic manic back in 1993 and was put into a hospital. They were giving no matter what was wrong with them Haldol. That's how I got on it. Then when I wen to a pdoc, she didn't change anything, like she should of. Haldol has some bad side effects that don't go away even when you stop the medicine. I have what's called tardkive dyskinesa (I don't know if that's spelled right). I move my mouth. Thankfully it's not too noticable. But you can get some nasty tics taking Haldol. I also have (it's calming down) akesinesa (also not spelled right) where I couldn't sit still and do my work. I would feel like I was losing my mind. I googled it and found vitamin B-6 helped the symptoms. I took a lot of it. Now I don't have so much spells with it. If I were you I tell my pdoc I'd stay with my risperdal. You can ask about what I said, or google it. But it's common to get this stuff taking Haldol

Medicines I take for Bipolar: 675 Mg Lithium 100 mg Lamitical 2.5 mg Klonipin 7.5 mg. Ristoril for sleep. Really, I think the meds work quite well. I just talk a little more and my love of music has come back. I really don't feel manic, not depressed, but not manic. I am paranoid about that and those feeling and still watch closely.
