I had posted a while back that my Psychologist wasn't doing in person therapy sessions and was switching to doing it over skype. I have decided that I don't want to have therapy over skype, so I have booked an appointment with a new therapist. My first appointment is Friday. I'm a bit nervous because I really enjoyed my last therapist and I don't want to go through all my history (abusive childhood) with a new person. One of the positives is she is part of my employee assistance program, so it will be free of charge for me up to 6 sessions.

Good luck on your appointment. I hope she is really nice and understanding. It does suck to have to go to a new person and give your history all over again. I've had to do that as my school insurance expired and my state insurance is taking over so I have to go to the county mental health office and see one of their psychiatrists. But there are 2 intake appointments (actually 3) before I got to see the psychiatrist (which I do this Wednesday). Each time I had to talk a little about my past. And I'll still have to do it one more time with her. Hate feeling naked in front of a stranger. I talk about the awful stuff with a cold detachment to hide my feelings (as if it had happened to someone else). I am still kind of numb about it all. Not sure how you deal with it, but that's what helps me.

Anyway. Big hugs and know that you're not alone.

Good luck! It'll work out!

I've never been a big fan of telling strangers my life story but it does help, even it if involves unearthing painful memories.

Wish you the best - let us know how it goes!

Thanks Thinker and laur88; I appreciate the support. I will definitely let you know how it goes.

My first thoughts when I booked the appointment was that I was going to refuse to talk about the childhood stuff. I was at the point with my previous therapist that I was done talking about it and wanted to work on more present day issues. However, I don't think that is going to work and for a therapist to help me, she needs to know the past issues.......I guess I was having a control freak/stubborn moment!

Thanks again for your support I do really appreciate it and it helped me see this issue from a different perspective.

I really hope your appointment goes well! I know it's daunting starting over with a new T and I hope you both click and that the transition goes as smoothly as possible

I always hate going to a new therapist as I tend to go through therapists rather quickly for one reason or another. My current therapist I've been seeing about 2 months and I'm still not sure she's helping me.
