Hi friends,

Once again, I'm having bipolar medicine problems. My system has become so sensitive. My pdoc is frustrated and is doing the best she can. I go to see her tomorrow and I just dread telling her what's happening.

I was allergic to lamictal and tegretal. My colitis couldn't handle lithium, and carbatrol is making me nauseus, have abdominal pain, skin peels, sweats, etc.

I have no idea of other meds to suggest to her. I have the milder form of bp, so I don't need the "harder" drugs. Do you have any suggestions? I am so afraid she's going to say there's nothing out there, and believe me, I cannot manage my bp without meds.

Please help.

Thanks,

Jan

I hope your appointment with your pdoc goes well. There are other meds out there. I am sure you will find the right combination. Just off hand there is Topomax neurontin and a few other anti epileptics. Then the atypical antipsychotics whole categories of meds you haven't tried. Good luck and don't give up.

Jan,
I'm sorry the mentioned have had those side effects, I feel confident there will be something else, and being you are BP-mild, that may be to your advantage, requiring smaller doses, decreasing or keeping any side effects to a minimum.
Discuss this with your pdoc, also you may be able to see if a local med center is involved with any new drugs in clinical trial phase, if there isn't any meds available for you. But that is drastic, I doubt very much that there isn't anything that can be used for you, there just has to be something, I mean with all the new meds that come out every few months. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and positive ones at that, hoping for the right med for you, and peace of mind. . . you deserve it.
Sincerely,
DE

I'm sorry also, for the frustration you have with this dx... stabilizing on medication is one of the hardest things about it...the dx. Remember, it's the disorder, not you who is causing the problems... TC

Boy, did this hit the right chord - Remember, it's the disorder, not you who is causing the problems...

I was feeling guilty and scared that the meds weren't working. That helped. Thank you, Sky.

Hugs,

Jan
