I have had depression/anxiety for as long as I can remember. I always though "it could also be something else; cyclthomatic (sp) disorder. I receently decided to conquer whats been going on. I don't like to take med but have been taking Prozac for a few mths. It is working slightly. I recently have been perscribed Lamicital, the generic brand though. I am willing to take it if it helps but I am worried tat it may not be right for me. rom my research IT SEEMS LIKE A SUPER INTENSE MEDICATION. I want to feel better but kind-a worried. sigh...

Lamictal is a mood stabilizer often prescribed for BP. It's not so much "super intense", but it has side effects that you have to be aware of. You have to start the dosage very low (I was started at 12.5 mg a day, increase by 12.5 mg every week until I reached full dose). Increasing too rapidly can put you at risk for Stevens-Johnson syndrome which is a rash that can be deadly. That being said, a lot of people have had good luck with Lamictal.

If you're not sure about your diagnosis or don't fully understand your medications, you should have your doctor explain it thoroughly.

Welcome orchid81 I agree with pt52. Also if you are currently not seeing a Psychiatrist I would suggest asking your GP for a referral. If you do have BP or Cyclothymia taking an anti-d (i.e. Prozac) without a mood stabilizer is a recipe for disaster.

Medicine or no Medicine?!
