just curious if anyone has tried wellbutrin for the depressive end of bipolar..

a) did it work for you?

b) did it cause any type of mania?

c) did you use it in combination with any other medication?

any feedback would be great, thanks!

seventyeight;I have been on wellbutrinXL since I was diagnosed in 2007. I am also on a mood stabilizer. I haven't had any major issues with it, but have had to decrease or increase the dose depending on symptoms. i.e. in the summer I was on 150 mg and since September I am back on 300 mg.

I have been on the generic wellbutrin (not XL) and I found it didn't work for me.

An anti-d without a mood stabilizer is a recipe for disaster. For some people with BP even with a mood stabilizer he or she cannot tolerate anti-d's.

I was on just prozac before getting the right diagnosis - it definitely triggered major hypomania. Then I was put on a mood stabilizer with no anti-d...no mania but serious short depressions. Added 300 mg Wellbutrin and am pretty level...lean a bit more on the depression side, but it's not debilitating.

I was on Wellbutrin and Cymbalta for a few years. They started making me manic.
Thanks for this!
