Does anyone else have trouble swallowing lamictal (lamotrigine)? It doesn't have any sort of coating and it's shape is awkward! And then I get a nasty bitter taste in the back of my throat for the rest of the day!

Anybody else experience this?

laur88.......I totally experience this!! It is the worst pill to swallow and if I don't get it all the way down the first time, forget it........it sticks and comes apart and the taste is terrible! I really dread taking it every night. I'm taking it in combination with Seroquel and the bitter metallic taste is there all the time. You're not suffering alone.........

Well, I've not noticed the taste very often, but... do you get the generic Teva lamotrigine? THE worst pill shape I've ever seen-- a diamond shape(!) Weird. I always make sure to have plenty of water at hand. (So why take that brand of generic, you ask? Lol. Because it'd gotten the best feedback on generic lamotrigine I'd seen, so....) I've tasted a *bit*, but didn't find it too horrible. Xanax on the other hand? Wow. Bitter. (My psych person mentioned it will act faster dissolved under the tongue. True, but tell ya what! That taste is quite the disincentive.

I take whichever pill is the fatty round one! Hate it... Why don't they just sugar coat it or something!? Glad to know I'm not the only one, though...

That's the one I take. BITTER!! I try to have water in my mouth when I pop the pill and then chug right after I swallow. Bleck!

Maybe you can call or email the manufacturer - tell them about the shape and bad taste. Put it far back on your tongue with a big gulp of water. I hate the way some vitamin pills are huge and go down side ways - it hurts.

On a funny note - I'm amazed my 20 lb dog swallowed a small dog biscuit whole without choking. She also successfully swallowed many other non food items and I can't for the life of me, figure out how it went down and more amazed/relieved it came out.

I take two 200mg lamotrigine pills and two 80mg Geodon caps every night. My generic lamotrigine is a fat, round, pale green pill and I have never noticed a taste from it.

The original Lamictal starter kit was awful with the melt away tabs. Horrible bitter sometimes. I was glad to get a tasteless generic.

I take all my pills with milk, and that helps them go down smoother. It is especially helpful with the Lamictal that I take and the Seroquel XR.

Lamictal tastes yucky!?

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I take a Generic Lamictal. It's a round, white tablet. Medium sized. I need to swallow it quickly, else it starts dissolving and that tastes aweful.
Oh, what we endure to hopefully get a bit of sanity/stability back in our lives

My generic Lamictal is smaller but still hard to swallow. It's even worse when you have to take a half one..scratches all the way down and you can really taste it.
