Today I have my appointment with a pdoc for a second opinion (requested by my own pdoc). It was supposed to be not until next Monday, but I'm not doing well at all right now and my therapist managed to get me in to see the pdoc a few days early.

I'm nervous of course. I'm feeling so hopeless right now and I feel like this is my last chance. If this guy can't help me, I'm a lost cause.

Sorry, just in a really bad place right now.

I know you may feel like this is your last chance, but in all honesty you don't need to give up, whether or not this works out for you. There are plenty of doctors and plenty of drug combinations and who knows, maybe they will be able to help you and it will be worth the wait. I sure hope this second opinion can give you some relief, but just remember if it doesn't you are not a lost cause, you just need to push forward, and keep trying your best until something works weather it be new doctor or new medication. I hope things work out for you.

Best of luck,

Ryask

Thanks everyone. The appointment went okay. He talked to me for about an hour. He is going to recommend first that my pdoc up my thyroid to the point of making me hyperthyroidic for a few months. Sometimes that will kick things in gear. He would like to see me in an IOP program to work on my abuse issues. I don't really agree with that one as I have done much work on this already and really feel most of that is behind me now. He just kind of honed in on that. Third, he is recommending TMS. He thinks there is a good chance insurance might pay for it as I've had ECT in the past and so many hospitalizations. Of course if insurance won't pay, that's a moot point.

I'm not sure what else he recommended. I'll find out more tomorrow when I talk to my therapist (he works in the same office and will have the report). He did ask me several times about ECT and provigil (I've never been on provigil). I'd be willing to do ECT if it wasn't right in the middle of school. I don't see how I can do ECT and work at the same time.

I'm left not feeling terrible hopeful. This pdoc has a very high opinion of my pdoc and trusts his judgement which is nice but leaves me with no earth-shattering possibilities for improvement.

Maybe I'll feel differently after I see my regular pdoc on Monday.

I'm glad it went fairly well. Consider it for what it is - a second opinon. Maybe the pdocs can collaborate their knowledge and find that combo that will really help you. It'll be ok. We're here for you. Maybe you can do ECT once school's over?

Sorry you're not feeling very hopeful Try to keep an open mind about the IOP program - he may be off track and it may not help, but it won't hurt either, right? Anyway, hope it gets sorted out soon and you get to feeling better!

chris try to hang in there. sometimes as u already know it takes time to find ways to help us. if you have hypothyroidism it's good they found it. it helped me go on meds for it. didn't totally resolve my depression but it does help. meanwhile keep us posted on the pdoc's progress to help you. i know it can make you feel hopeless and helpless but just stay the course. if all else fails i'd try an all together new pdoc and go from there altho it sounds like your pdoc is working on helping you...i'd tell him how you feel re discouraged and get his feedback. that should help you determine if you need to progress with another pdoc. there are meds to help us but we need for our dx to be correct first.

Hi ((((((farmergirl)))))))) I'm glad the appointment went ok. And it sounds as though there are a few new options that can be explored, which is all positive. I really hope that your insurance will cover the TMS as I've heard that some people have excellent results with that. Wishing you all the very best ((((((((farmergirl)))))))))
