Today,
Its just been sheer irritation and annoyance. Everything people do I get the above. If my Mum asks me 1 more time if I am ok I am gonna scream. I feel upset today. Think its the lack of sleep. Been in bed for over an hour and im still awake. My sleep is all over the place and has been for quite some time. Just wanna sleep all the time esp during the day. Its really hard for me to get up in the morning now. This is not good |

if your sleep is really affecting you that much, maybe you should consider taking sleep medication or melatonin. It will probably help you. Hopefully if you feel rested, you will be in a better mood overall.

I agree with lxegirl, try taking some melatonin capsules. They are OTC. Take them about 30 minutes before you plan to sleep and it should help you rest easier. If not discuss it with a doctor and seek medication to help you sleep. Also are you currently on any medication for any disorder if so that could be the cause of your irritability and annoyance with things. I too am bipolar and currently on Depakote and Abilify and it turns out that I was too low on Abilify and was experiencing those side effects. It's something to check with your doctor about.

I got 8 full hours last nite. I got up at 8am then slept from bout 830am til 1030am. Now up and out. Feel like poo! So so tired. My whole body is shattered. Not seeing my GP til 23rd and not seeing Psych til 29th Dec |

Have you ever tried given the melatonin capsules a try? I mean it wont hurt to try I know its just OTC stuff but you never know what is going to work for your body. I am currently on Depakote as well and I am not experiencing those side effects, if anything it is making me more tired!

I am gonna look for melatonin in the local supermarket and chemist tomorrow. I guess the lack of sleep is a side effect of the depakote... but I also have insomnia too which I have had for about 20 years. So its all a mixture I am thinking. I have been busy all day and now that it's nightime I feel exhausted. Just hope I get some sleep tonight
I feel better today than yesterday... irritation and annoyance has calmed down, still have the odd niggle but its not as bad as yesterday. I haven't been that bad in ages though. Is this part of bipolar or is this just me? |

I think that's apart of bipolar. I'm on Depakote and Abilify and when I started to get irritable and annoyed easily. I told my doctor about it and it turns out it was my bipolar acting up and he had to up my Abilify.
About the melatonin, my father takes it who also has extreme insomnia. Though it might not work miracles it will still help you get more relaxed and more at ease to fall asleep. It doesn't work all the time but it is definitely worth the try so I'm glad you are going to. |

Ok... the joys of bipolar then huh!! Hate it but hey ho!!
I dont want to take any more medication... I know some people who have bipolar are on more than 1 medication but I guess I am being stubborn but at the same time I just dont know |

Well sometimes it just comes down to you having to take more than one medication. I am on two and very happy with the results. Granted it is a pain in the *** to take the horse pills every night, it is worth the help I am given. I wish you the best of luck finding a medication. I know taking more isn't fun but that could really help you so be open to it. Your psychiatrist knows best let them take over.

I am on 5 different medications for bipolar. I use a pillbox with seven compartments for the days of the week. If you have to take one then taking more isn't a big deal.... just swallow.

If it makes you feel any better, melatonin is something our brain produces naturally to trigger sleep, taking extra just suppliments it.

Do you have a normal sleep schedule. Like get up and go to bed around the same time everyday (including weekdays)?

Hmm I'm sorry you can't have normal sleeping patterns. That's not good for your sleeping it can really throw your body out of whack.

Ye... I use to work the nightshift as I slept better during the day... My bodyclock is whack!!!
I am not allowed to do Nightshift or Sleepovers anymore my Manager has "banned" me from this which I am not happy about. I can go to bed at 11pm and still be awake at 7am. I just cant win. I can go days/weeks without sleep... most has been 2 weeks. I was a zombie by the end of the 2 weeks I have tried loads of herbal tea's(which are rank), sleeping herbal tablets, sleep hypnosis cd's, hot bath, no stimulation, no food or drink after 6pm nothing works. This is when I feel indestructable |

Well tell me how it goes with the melatonin I am curious to know how it will work for you. There are no side effects it is a natural occurring substance in the body you are just increasing the amount of it so no worries there
