Ok, so as some of you may know I am in the military. It used to not be so bad, and somewhat manageable. But now that I have moved to a new base all of that has changed.

This new unit is so unorganized it is not funny. Things change on a moments notice, and scheduled days off usually end up getting taken away. I work shift work (12hrs per shift) with a schedule that is usually like this: Work: Mon-Tue.... Off: Wed-Thur... Work: Fri-Sat-Sun...Off: Mon-Tue.... Work: Wed-Thur.... Off: Fri-Sat-Sun... then repeat

However, due to certain personnel being out for sickness, and one had a heart attack, I was called in on 2 of my days off (Sat-Sun) to cover. No big deal, I was going to get some compensation time for this. Now, mind you I have worked Wed-Thur, off fri, then come back in on Sat-sun (days off) and now Mon (regular day to work). So that makes 5 out of 6 days I have worked (12hrs each).

I was originally going to be compensated by getting Tues. off thus giving me Tue-Wed-Thur off, and possibly one more day off at a later date if manageable people wise. All fine and dandy.

However...... I just looked at our schedule... and it has been changed at some point today. I am now scheduled to go to a 'mandatory' training event on Thursday (one of my regularly scheduled days off) that will take ALL day (6am - 7/8pm)......

Worst part is... I've been working night shift all month ... my sleep patterns are already screwed up beyond belief.... and now... I have to be awake all day during times which I normally have been trying to sleep.....

I just hate this damn place so much.... I want so bad for my psychiatrist to dx me bipolar so I can go ahead and get out already and just get to a stable environment......

ok....../rant even tho I'm still fumed.....

If you ARE bipolar, your sleep being messed up can make symptoms worse.
Thanks for this!

I know I'm bipolar. I've researched it, looked at the DSM-IV standards for diagnosing and everything. It's just that my current pdoc is such a d-bag that he doesn't listen to me. I don't even talk to him anymore. I tried once, when I first started seeing him, and he told me I needed to get a psychologist for that.

I mean, aren't psychiatrists supposed to listen to our problems too to be able to give us meds? Anyway, I'm not making that mistake again with the new pdoc. He/She will hear everything I have to say on the first visit and then we'll go from there.

You can get an initial diagnosis and meds from your GP (unless the military system is different than the private sector). My GP is my base point; he consults with a psychiatrist on meds and I'm on a waiting list for a therapist. I suppose a psychologist could dx you, but they can't prescribe meds. Good luck

Psychiatrists listen to symptoms, not long stories of problems. Just the way it is. They are usually scheduled with 10 minutes per patient, sometimes even less.

Most people hate their jobs; not just people who have psychiatric issues. Remember; a job is something that you are being paid to do, because NO ONE will do it for free!!!
