Hello all. I woke up today to a phone call that I was hired for a long term, temp assignmen! My overall feeling is that of excitement. Excitment that I will be more independent financially that I have been for about the past year. Glad to be out and about in the world again.

The problem I have is that I usually take klonopin for anxiety (I have bipolar as well) but I'm out. I won't be able to get the klonopin again until I see my new pdoc at the beginning of December (about a month from now). So there is no way I can get klonopin before then. Sometimes I get so nervous, my hands shake. I don't know how to deal with this until then.

Help anyone?!

i just want to say congrats on the assignment! i wish i knew something else to ease the anxiety. i don't other than some relaxation techniques that might help you to stay in a more calm state. i have a hard time utilizing those, tho. I Got a Job! Scared, nervous, excited...

i wish i could give more suggestion than that.

again, congrats and good luck!

Do your hands shake just from nervousness rather than from any medication or lack thereof?

Try holding something in your hands at all times. I always hold a pen... it looks natural, as if I am "ready to take notes" and you can figit with it a little bit without it calling attention. I just switch it from hand to hand if I have to shake hands with someone for instance.

It helps a huge amount.

You can also hold something that feels nice to touch. I keep a smooth stone in my pocket that I can grab and just hold if I feel nervous or figity, it takes my mind off the nervousness.

But the reason the pen is nice is that no one will question why you are holding it.

Best of luck on the job and congratulations!

Congratulations! Try taking some deep breaths. When you get nervous, try to think about the good things this job may bring - the financial independence, etc. Imagine yourself doing really well. And if your hands still shake, don't sweat it. A lot of people are nervous when they start new jobs, so some hand-shaking isn't going to shock anyone at your new job.

Hello, we've never met before, but I wanted to offer you a couple of suggestions of the herbal kind. There is Valerian Root, it is the deritive for valium, but not narcotic. It comes in both capsule and tea form. There is also Chamomile tea that helps to calm the nerves. Perhaps you can have some of that in the morning before work instead of coffee, it has no caffeine that can add to nervousness and "the shakes". There is also something called "Rescue Remedy" from the Bach line of products.
Granted, these are not the same as Klonopin, but they may help you enough to get through the day a little calmer.
Hope this helps.
Congrats on the new job, it'll be good for you. There's nothing like putting your head on the pillow at the end of the day and feeling like you've been somehow productive.
We're here for you.
TgrsPurr, xo.
