It can be one of the symptoms of bipolar. I have had auditory and visual hallucinations when I was in a mixed state. It's scary.

I have when I was really depressed... I would say tell your pdoc, but then I'd have to admit I didn't tell mine

It can happen, I have never experienced it, but it is listed in the DSM as one of the possible symptoms.

Yes, it's definitely possible. I've had both auditory and visual hallucinations while being manic, as well as during deep depression. Very scary stuff. If you're experiencing hallucinations, I would definitely consider telling your pdoc.

I used to hallucinate both auditory and visual all the time. I don't so much anymore but I don't know if it's because I'm stable now or because the hallucinations were bothering me so much that I did something about them. I decided if I thought I might be hallucinating I'd just assume I was until there was proof whatever I saw or heard was actually happening. It helped get rid of the anxiety associated with the hallucinations so now even though I still have them they don't bother me as much.

I have BP 1 and have had hallucinations when not properly medicated. Maybe your shrink will adjust your meds a bit to get rid of them. Abilify works great for me.

I had auditory hallucinations when severely depressed before I was put on Risperidone. BTW I'm BPII.

I've had visuals when depressed too, but fortunately not to a bothersome point. Mostly things moving that aren't really there out on the edges of vision or things that aren't what I think they are. Initially. Have to admit same as BlackPup.

Oh.So.Hear.You on the olfactory ones, Gus! Mine come (always) as the smell of rotten chicken! Yuck!!! Have not been able to figure out if there is a mood connection, as fortunately they don't happen all that much.
(Btw. BP II here too.)

I hear someone call my name quite frequently. The worst I had was a long monlogue by a halucination while I was on Serazone (technically hypnagogic, in reality simply outrageous, brogue and all). My olfactory come on with bloodpressure falls and yep, smells like blood.

right now i am having some perceptual problems, but they say that's because I am having such bad swelling in my sinuses that one of my eyes sin't able to move properly, so I'm seeing some things in 3D that aren't supposed to be. This has also happened to me on some types of meds. Not true hallucinations, though.
