I have had a good response to Wellbutrin - I just couldn't shake the depression otherwise

I've been on both. Wellbutrin is a better fit for me, but it's because each of these meds works on different neurotransmitters in the brain.

Celexa has been a miracle drug for me especially for anxiety/depression, however...it has also caused hypo-mania...so...i would definitely consider a mood stabilizer.

Before I was properly diagnosed (and put on ADs alone w/o mood stabilizer), I had (3?) different ADs prescribed, both alone, together and in different dosages. (A huge amount of this is very fuzzy remembering, as I had no idea to keep track at that time. So keep in mind that these are only the parts I remember clearly.) Lexapro, wasn't terrible, but it did send me up w/in 2 days (bad sign, should've been a clue). Insurance forced me to citalopram (Celexa) saying it was equivalent. Not! That one was an unmitigated disaster, making me very suicidal for one, and causing serious jaw clenching (to the point I couldn't align my bite properly). Both of those caused total lack of libido for me. (Not a huge deal as marriage was in serious decline by that point... ) Wellbutrin (XL, I believe it was) was the least probematic, and the last one I went off. Debated it, actually (and it didn't hurt the libido, that's for sure, lol!). I went off all of them unsupervised (but armed with knowledge and proper tapering. (They had all been prescribed by a GP who didn't like her psych knowledge questioned, though she was clearly out of her depth...soooo...). That was all before realizing it actually was BP, not MDD. Properly diagnosed, it was a whole new strategy.

Long and short, if an adjunct were to be added to my lamotrigine, I'd definitely bring all this up with the psych, and there's a good chance we'd try the Wellbutrin.

Welcome to the forums, Jshect! One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that everyone is different and can respond very differently to any given med. So, YMMV (your mileage may vary)!

Btw, I find the website http://www.crazymeds.us/ a useful resource on med info (it's definitely not a support site though, strictly med stuff).
