Yesterday I started lamictal, my pdoc did more research and felt comfortable prescribing it to me while breastfeeding now that my son is 6 months old. We'll be building it up slower than usual though.

I'm very pleased and relieved about this, and just wanted to share in case anyone else was in my position of being bipolar and breastfeeding. This has been a worry for me since I found out I was pregnant, so I'm glad I got to this point without going full-crazy.

Congrates on "the baby". It's nice to know it's safe with breastfeeding. So many of the psych medications are so dangerous to pregnancy and breastfeeding, glad you are able to get back on track with medications. Enjoy the bundle of joy - they grow up fast!

Yay!!! Congratulations, I'm so impressed you made it to six months, and are continuing. I know how stressful and exhausting nursing can be. I nursed my son for three and a half years, and wasn't on meds... and boy could I be crazy at times. In the extreme off chance I ever had another child, your account gives me hope I could do it more safely next time.

Really?

Great, now you've given me the baby jones again. And I was all happy with my only child.

We have decided not to have any more children because of our financial situation/housing situation and my medications.

But if I can ever get to the point of ONLY Lamictal (I'm currently taking Lamictal plus Lithium and Invega) then maybe I could have another baby.

But honestly, I had such a horrific experience attempting to breastfeed my daughter, I think I might use the meds as a cop-out reason to formula-feed. She seriously put me through he**. I guess it didn't help that I was an undiagnosed Bipolar with severe postpartum issues.
