I'm on Zyprexa and before being properly medicated my mood episodes lasted for months. Now I'll only be depressed or hypomanic for a few days (or even less) and I don't really get mixed episodes. Is this typically what happens when you are on medications that successfully help? I still have mood episodes -- just for much, mucher shorter periods of time. I just spent yesterday and part of the day before hypomanic, but it's already almost gone today.

Absouletly....The right medications reduce the amount of time, and even narrow the wide swings. This is great news!

I have found the combination of Zyprexa, lithium, and topomax seem to do the same for me. They help stabilize me at higher does and at a lower does help me stay stable. When I am on a dose that is appropriate for my state then my episodes are further apart.

I used to be on depakote & zyprexa, and pretty much lost 6 years of my life with that combo. Now I'm on depakote & abilify, and I just feel great....I got my life back again! So absolutely, there are certain things which work for certain people, and maybe not for others.

zyprexa was very helpful to me, but the side effects--blood sugar increase, weight gain--were so toxic that i had to get off, and quickly. Also, it was unbelievably expensive, even with insurance. Too bad. It really did help.
