Hi, Amber,

You're in the right place for help...these folks basically saved my life a few months back, so I'm telling you, you can trust these folks! Blackdragon is right, this is as good a place to start your learning about BPD as any. You might see if your town has a chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). They have great support groups and services, all run by people who actually have the condition you need help with. The chapter here in my town is quite good. AND remember...do what your pdoc (psychiatrist) says, take your meds and GET THERAPY!!! The chances for your management of, or even recovery from this disease are good, but not if you try to do it by yourself!

((((FoodFights)))) , many ((((HUGS))) to ((((YOU))))!

FOODFIGHTS
Hi, I wanted to give you a quick response to tell you that I too am Bipolar (primary diagnosis)and Borderline Personality Disorder (secondary diagnosis). BPD is new to me, but I've don't EXTENSIVE research that I'd be more than happy to share with you. I was diagnosed BP about 10 years ago and I have TONS to share with you about that.
However, it's after 2am and I want to be a little more coherent when I give you an informed and appropriate response. Hang in there Buddy. I'll get back to you later this evening.
Thinking of you.

FOODFIGHTS, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back with you. I get sooo tired sometimes that all I can do is go to bed, but then I'm up early, I like that.

Anyway, Bipolar Disorder or Manic-Depressive is an illness much like someone who has diabetes...it's biological and not psychological...although it presents itself as behavior and pychological problems. This is not the end of the world for you, BP is something you have...it's not who you are. I wish I had some more information from you...like who diagnosed you and how? Are you on meds? Are the people around you aware of this treatable disorder? What symptoms have you displayed?

BP ranges from intense highs, like you're on top of the world. You become very talkative and friendly. You live on very little sleep and aren't tired. Or the mania can be intense frustration, irritability and impatience with yourself and others...in an irrational way.

Then there's the deep depression. The higher you go, the harder you fall. It's very difficult to function. You don't care about anything or anyone. You feel hopeless, helpless and worthless. You may just want to stay in bed all day and night. Things you usually enjoy no longer appeal to you.

This is an illness of abnormal extremes. Although there are times of lucidity, when everything is normal. Your moods are stable and your functioning perfectly fine in your daily life and your whole world. That is also where the meds come in...to help you maintain that balanced and even feeling.

Like the others have said, you really ought to research BP on-line, at the book store. You can always come here for support, encouragement and we'll try to answer any questions you might have.
Just please remember that BP is a chemical imbalance. Meds correct that imbalance and then you can deal with the more psychological issues such as Borderline Personality Disorder which is more an issue of environmental problems, psychological problems and lack of coping skills in most every area of your life and how you play that out. This is where therapy is so important...to find the reasons you have BPD. Again, I suggest research of that subject.

Please know, I'm right there with you. I'm dealing with the same things you are. You're not alone so don't feel isolated by these things you're just finding out about and are trying to come to terms with.
Thinking of you.
TgrsPurr, xo.
