I have suffered from major depression for many, many, years. During that time I have had episodes of extreme homicidal rage where I completely lost track of myself and had no control over my actions. My pdoc thinks I have bipolar II, but I'm not so sure. He put me on ability and the hostile feelings are now under control. No more rages. My question is can mania or hypo. Mania be exhibited by rage? I don't really feel like I have bipolar...

It can definitely present as being extremely irritable. Glad the meds are helping.

I get extremely irritable and act totally out of line. I also sleep less when I'm hypomanic (not VERY obvious) and often in the middle of the evening I'll get a second wind and start bouncing around

What does bipolar feel like? I wouldn't rely on the DSM-IV for an answer.
Irritability can be part of depression, but extreme rage accompanied by edginess and restlessness that goes on for days or longer certainly rings alarm bells.
Often a person in a hypomanic or manic episode is completely unaware of their mood or difficulties with judgement.
Often bipolar feels like your friend saying "um... are you sure you want to be doing this?".
And you feel like "What's your case? Can I not replace the curtains in my lounge (for the 5th time this month)? I mean - geez- get a life!!!!!"
*alarm bells*

Hi, everyone, and thanks for your replies. I feel better knowing that my pdoc wasn 't totally off base! Maybe now I can accept the fact that I have bipolar II.
