I just finished reading this article;
http://psychcentral.com/news/2011/05...nia/26527.html The brand I have says 2-3 capsules a day. Would taking more be beneficial for one who has bipolar? Thanks |

I tried to talk my D.O into letting me take omega3 as a primary treatment since I hate taking pharmas. But he insisted there is little evidence to prove that it works in any consistent manner across subjects.
But hypothetically, I think it would need to be a high dosage for it to work; somewhere in the 1000-2000mg range. I thinksies.

My T has researched Omega 3 and takes high doses of it himself. He has ADHD. I started taking 4,000 mg a day and did notice it helped my depressive stages become a bit less severe. I have had no ill effects, so it might be worth trying. My pdoc sees no problem with this either. He encourages any supplement that might help without being harmful. I like that about him.

I take Omega 3 at the dose it suggests (1500 mg/day). I'm not sure what a high dose would do and if it would harm someone. My guess is no because I do eat quite a bit of salmon as well. You may want to consult with a naturopathic doctor.

I think higher doses may be beneficial as the trials for depression used higher doses.. I take the recommended dose.

I had been a vegetarian for 15 years, didn't eat fish either. About 2 years ago when I started to struggle psychologically, from nowhere I developed really strong cravings for Salmon - I couldn't understand why I should suddenly be thinking about eating fish - I didn't want to as the reasons for being a veggie still stood (ethicical ones) - but the urges became stronger until I ate salmon and couldn't get enough of it. After reading this article and googling best fish for Omega 3 (salmon was number 1) I wonder whether my body knew something that I didn't?
