So, I am sure this has been discussed in one way or another before, but I was wondering what people here have done with CBT and how it works?

It was recommended to me by an author, Terri Cheney. (she wrote Manic: A Memoir) ... I had posted a question on her FB wall and she actually replied!! ... One of her suggestions was to look up CBT and read a book, Feeling Good.

I looked up the book and it had great reader reviews and comments on Amazon. I wanted to hear from you guys what you thought of this, does it work, and has anyone read the book before???

I hope everyone is having a great day!!

I've been having CBT sessions for a few months now, it seems to be quite helpful actually, it can help you to think from a slightly different perspective. The only trouble is that you have to be motivated and want to put the effort in to actually take it in if you no what I mean, which is something I've struggled with. It's worth looking into though if there's chance it could help right jess x
Thanks for this!

My therapist works primarily (although not exclusively) from a CBT perspective. He personally likes the Anxiety & Phobia Workbook. The middle chapters cover mistaken beliefs and thought distortions. I never read the whole book as most of it is about anxiety and phobias, but those middle chapters really are well-written and A LOT less cumbersome that the Feeling Good book you are talking about. I have found the techniques used in CBT to be very helpful, although my t doesn't only do CBT with me.
Thanks for this!

Thanks ladies!! I'm going to ask my tdoc about this and I'm going to try and get some workbooks, books, articles relating to it as well. I'm really interested in this.
