I care for my emotional & physical health

I am mindful of the present moment

I allow myself to feel, love, and be loved

I benefit from fulfilling work

I participate in wholesome, rewarding, leisure activities

I help others to do the same

I updated my compass (mission statement) some changes the most notable is the acceptance that I benefit from work...something I haven't been able to say for over 2 years.

This is a good list. I don't know what a compass is (literally I do) I think I understand. This is a good idea, I think I will make one.

I like how you have being mindful of the present moment on your list. My pdoc used to tell me to do that and I still struggle with it.
Thanks for sharing this.

Also congratulations on your success.
Thanks for this!

Love it. How did you get it started or get the idea for this?

The original idea for creating a compass or mission statement came from Covey's book The 7 habits of Highly Effective Families. I read it back in the mid-nineties. I've had one pretty much through the years. This past 6-8 months has been better, but before that (starting about 2 years ago) I had many events such as job loss, bankruptcy, loss of house, car, on-going unemployment, approval of SSDI and pretty much the life I knew was gone which that really shook me to the core.

About 6 months ago as part of this group I'm in we were asked to create our mission statments. I felt really lost and recreating my compass from the point I was at now was hard but has been the support to me that I once new. They had a booklet of questions to answer about what is important to me now. It was a difficult process. We did a Personal Values card sort then and I went through it again today. It is a nice way to see if something becomes more/less important.

The card sort is a really easy way to go...here's the link http://motivationalinterview.net/lib...escardsort.pdf All you need to do is just print and cut them into the small squares, divide them into an order of importance...from their you can just narrow it down and create your own...etc...

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the link. I'm going to print it out.

I was thinking about that book today so it's interesting that you brought it up - I'll have to find my copy.

I was thinking about my compass all long. My head is all over the place right now. Tomorrow I plan on drafting it out. And I can revise it later when I am more well.

Direction, Thanks very much for posting this and the link. I am excited about this, gives me something to look forward to working on

Once you put it in writing and you know where you want to head you can look at it and make sure your going in the right direction. So when things are at the extremes up or down... It is that guiding light that you look at and review and reflect upon. It can help you focus. You can continue to work further with it and use it to develop goals. The goals become meaningful when they relate back to it.
