should I, or should I not, change my name to davy jones.

I really want to, I thought it was just because I was manic and obsessing over pirates, but I really really want to.

their's the slight setback that davy jones is a man's name, and i'm a woman, but apart from that, I mean, it's not exactly something they can refuse

should I?

It's a very individual decision. give it plenty of consideration, including any/all official documents you may need to change, etc.

You might want to take some time to really think about this. You have the rest of your life to be Davy Jones so thinking it over carefully won’t hurt.

I legally changed my name when I turned 21 and have never regretted it for a minute... I didn't...and don't...need any association with the family name.
Lots of girls have *boy* names...so what??

Hmmm, yes, that is true, and as soon as I read it something else popped to mind. Another way to go with it could be to make it with an "i" or "ie" instead of a "y" if that felt like an issue. (Ie. Davi Jones or Davie Jones). Just a thought.

My vote is no - I think it will make people question you.

Maybe wait for a down cycle and see how you feel.

Your name doesn't define you. If you're Davy/Davi/Davie Jones, then so be it. Go for it. Changing your legal name isn't difficult at all.

It seems it would bne a real hassle, changing social security cards, birth certificates, driver licenses or state I.D.'s, etc. Sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through.

Depends which country/province/state you live in. Also in some places requires lots of paperwork and government agencies. It also requires other things as well like money for instance.

My friend has been trying to change his name for the last 8 months but keeps running into roadblocks it's really sad and disheartening to see!

I just hope that you don't run into any roadblocks trying to do this!

I have two kids changing names; there is a lot gender fluidity (fluidness?) going on at my house. At age 17, they are treated like adults. Long drawn out process with fingerprints sent to a couple of different agencies to make sure you aren't trying to get away from legal trouble or a record or whatever, magistrate appearance, personal references and $150 fee. It takes a couple of months just to get the legal name changed and then you have to get the SS card, driver's license, bank accounts, etc.

I think I'd sit on it awhile and see if you still feel the same way in a few months.
